classic revival fuel tank
G'day
Has anybody tried fitting the standard vn comm fuel tank I've been trying but nothing seems to line up except for the drivers side fuel tank strap, the fuel inlet seems to be wedged between the body and chassis, do you need to grind the body away to allow for clearance?
Also does the tank sit directly under the floor of the boot or do you need to fabricate some bracing to stop it pushing up against the boot floor?
Regarding the pass side strap I have no idea what to with that as it appears to want to go on a totaly different tangent
Any advice or photo's will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
Jess

I had the commodore tank mounted but after an accident I have decided to get a new tank made by a local fabricating firm.

Jess
I used the standard VN tank but as you say its not a dropin fit. I had to make my own straps and created my own mounting bracket. One side I was able to use Ians M8 insert but the other side I came up with my own arrangement. I will try & post pic's soon. I also used 25mm rubber around the flange of the tank which locates up into the frame of the chassis & covered the topside of the tank with 25mm rubber to prevent knocking or rubbing of tank on underside of boot area.

Put some pic's in my gallery of tank mount. I used M8 inserts into the rear frame to mount both rear points of the straps & used the M8 insert which comes with chassis on the drivers side. On passenger side I made a bracket which attaches to strap them mounts to M8 insert provided on chassis. Hope its clear?? Pic's might make it easier to understand. Because strap recesses in tank dont line up with inserts Ian has provided its a bit of a stuff around.

Jess, I see you came to the same conclusion as me
'What the?'
I mounted my tank as far to the right as I could with the rear lip under the rear RHS and the front lip pressed up under the two tabs behind the diff.
I then modified each of the straps so that they bolted to the outside of the rear RHS and using a couple of modified tool box latches welded to the straps and their catchs welded to the chassis fixed them that way.
I haven't as yet taken any photos but I'll post some on the weekend.

Jess a couple of pics are now in my gallery.
See what you think, it was the best I could come up with while trying to keep a factory look.
I will clean them up and powder coat them and the tank before they go on
