Default Body brace pipe diameter

I dont know what the part is actually called but I have a question regarding the 2 tubes/braces that run from the transmission tunnel behind the dash and to the body work under windscreen.

Question 1 = What is the diameter of this tube?
Question 2 = How far is the gap between the dash panel (at bottom) and the tube?

Thanks in advance.

boxhead,

join us in the scratch builder's forum and remind me to look up the numbers for you.

those are 3/4" tubes, which join on top behind the dash.
they are also angled slightly forward.

I would make them to fit your chassis and tunnel.

Dave
not many guys here fit those bars, good to see you pick up on some minor detail. I have them fitted and use them with an extra bracket to support the lower edge of the dash.

Hi David,

I was going to fit them as I wasn't happy with the flex in the bottom of Ian's dash panel. I ended up bending up a hoop of 1/2" stainless tube that's bonded into the back of the lip on the botom of the dash. The ends of this hoop plug into some sockets I've glassed into the back of the fire wall. The whole thing keeps the dash panel nice and rigid yet easy to remove if needed.

I did it this way rather than the traditional bars because I figured it would be a pain to carpet around the braces where they attach to the tunnel. I'm also thinking of putting the fire extinguisher across the tunnel just under the edge of the dash.

Cheers

Your dead right Mike, I've lost a nice little cubby hole for the extinguisher.
