Bernies new sidepipes taking shape
Hi All,
I've been out of action for a while with a back injury. I've hurt it before but never this bad and it's taking ages to come right.
Two sessions of physio a week and a cocktail of medication and pain killers and I'm finally getting back into the shed.
Bernie's been patiently waiting for me to complete his car so I thought I'd post a few progress pics.
I'd been waiting ages for the 5" radius bends to come in for where they exit through the guard. The seems to be only one bending shop in the countyr that has dies for this wide radius. The tighter 3" radius bends for the inside pipes are common and there are other wider radii that are close but the 3" and 5" fit together perfectly.
Here's a couple of pics showing the merge for the collector:
Here's a pic of the welded collector and the muffler body in place. I'm just working out the positioning before final welding:
I left a bit more of a gap between the body and the sidepipe on Bernies car. When I did mine I put them closer to the body but thinking about it I reckon this will make for skinned knuckles when trying to wash and polish the paintwork behind the pipes.
The pipes will be ceramic coated black and should look and sound great when completed. I'll have some more progress shots later in the week. Hope to fire it up next week end and hear what it sounds like.
Cheers

Aussie Mike
Hi Mike,
Could not get on the phone last night. Hope is going well there.
The pipes look great. Don't worry about getting to close to the body as I don't wash the Cobra anyway. Would prefer closer to avoid burns to pedestarians..
Will try and get over later in the week to drop some bits off and get that roll bar out of the way.
Thanks for the progress photos
Bernie

Rebel 1
Les,
Please don't upset him with any Ford coments - he's doing a great job, so leave him alone..
He has a new welding suit and mask with an inbuilt back brace.
Bernie

Hi Don,
The baffles are removable and repackable. In the past I've made them from 2 1/2" perforated tube. I may need a different design to get down to the noises levels Bernie wants.
The advantage of the removable baffles is that you can tailor the sound to suit the situation/application. I'm making some free flow baffles for Bernie to se on the track and some quieter ones for the street.
I should have some pictures of the completed baffles on the weekend.
Cheers

I wish it was shaggers back! At least then It'd feel like I got some value out of this pain.
Working on a new design for you Ford guys... A Digeri Doo down each side of the car should produce the right sort of noise for you fellas.

I hope your back improves soon Mike.
Do you have any idea when mine might be done?
Also how did you go with the steering wheel adaptor?

I've got most of the materials there to make yours David. Just got to finish off the backlog of jobs and I can get on to them.
Cheers

I feel bad that I am asking Mike, I want to see your car going.
I am sure you are just as keen as I am to hear and drive your own car.

ABN's can be signed up for online and it takes only a few days to clear.
They are also free...
