Brand new LS1, in the crate.
No folks, I haven't given up on my project, though I am a little annoyed!!!
I have just been offered a brand new, in the box LS1 for the measly sum of $3000.... that's right, 3 grand.
"What's the catch" I asked. Apparently it is complete except for intake manifold (and all that bolts to the manifold, throttle body, rails, injectors etc.)
I reckon you can buy the manifold (and bits that go with it) for around $1000. For about 4 grand all up you could have a brand new motor.
Am I annoyed, you bet I am - I just paid $6000 for mine
I asked many questions of my source, and according to the engine numbers, they seem to be at least VYII (04 model) motors, they may possibly be VZ.
Apparently my "Source" has a few of these motors. They are in Adelaide and I believe they may have come direct from Holden.
Would anybody be interested in one of these motors???
Of course before anyone gets too serious, I will verify all the details with him, to ensure they are as he says they are.....

If you could find out more info Im definately interested. I was hoping to try and get the whole box and dice in one go (out of a wreck), but at that price for a newby it might be worth the hassle of chasing up all the extra bits.
It would be worth listing everything else you would need (for those who have no idea - Ummmm....like me )

Tenrocca
If you need a intake manifold (and all that bolts to the manifold, throttle body, rails, injectors etc.) let me know I have this stuff for sale.
Cheers

Is there an Option ?
Hi Guys,
I have been searching a bit (previous posts) and this post from Plums got me thinking again on new v's used engine. I will be in a position very soon to purchase engine and gearbox. LS1 is going to be the power plant, and until now I have been scouring wreckers for a suitable engine.
Being that I am in NSW (I will speak with engineer about this), are we allowed to fit new engines if they have an engine number from GMH ? Based on the price it may be a very viable option. Does anybody know if this is allowed ?
So, Plums, Like Tenrocca, if you could find out more details, (I will also ensure that I can use one of these), then you may have a another customer.
Maybe a bit difficult to bring back from Perth as on board luggage though
Cheers

I would have thought it is desirable (and would make the whole approvals thing easier) to have an engine number from GMH? Would it not be easier to prove it is what it is?
Craig, I may take u up on that if this pans out.
I better hurry up and get the missus back to work I think
Cheers,
Andrew

It definantly will make life easy using a GMH numbered LS1 I nearly found out the hard way using a new motor with no engine number on it (funny how things appear overnight).
The RTA will imply that a new unstamped engine is not ADR compliant and could evan make you do emission testing or at least tie you up in red tape for a while.
But check with your engineer because I have seen a lot of inconsistantsy in what they think is a problem for rego.
Cheers

I think that is a good price for a new engine, but a second hand unit may still be an option.
I bought my 2004 VY SS engine for $2800 with a claimed 26000Ks, but then still have to find a loom, starter, alternator, clutch and some brackets etc.
It would make life so much easier to buy a motor and box complete if it was the right price. Hard decision to make.
Ben
PS.
The company I work for has accounts with most freight companies, so I may be able to help the guys in Sydney if needed.

I believe (though I will have to confirm) that they are exactly the same as a new crate motor, but are missing the manifold and associated parts. My source said they are in the cardboard packing box and have exhaust manifolds and coil packs, leads etc.
I will try to get a picture posted up here over the next few days.
These motors are in Adelaide....
New crate motors DON'T have the alternator, starter motor, wiring loom or computer.
I just received all my gear (motor, box, loom, alt, starter) from Holmart in Melbourne, here are the rough prices:
Starter motor is only around $100 - $150,
Alternator is pretty expensive at $350 - $450,
Engine/trans wiring loom is $300 - $500 depending which one you choose.
I hope this helps.....
Plums.

I have 2 VT intake manifolds complete with injectors, 1 throttle body (cable operated) if anyone is interested.
If the new engines are LS2 then these may be no use to you.
Also if they are Holden crate motors then they will only have 1 mounting ear (Left hand side) and 2 exhaust manifolds.
They will also most likely have an Auto trans flex plate on the crank.

VT manifolds won't be any good for these motors, they are definately LS6 engines. You'll need to get a manifold from VX onwards (LS6)...
I believe they are Australian delivered motors, due to the engine number.
What is this "mounting ear" you speak of??? I'll have to check my donk for it.....

A VT LS1 manifold will go straight on these later motors. They won't make as much HP as the LS6 manifold but it would get you running (probably about 8-10KW down on the LS6). An LS6 manifold on an LS1 takes a bit of work as the coolant cross over pipes need to be changed for the LS6 versions too.
Cheers

By mounting ear I am refering to the aluminium bracket that the rubber mount bolts too.

Update on these motors...
Here is an update on these crate motors.
I've just found out that they are NOT VYII motors (04 model), but they are actually VX2 engines (02 model).
They are complete Australian delivered engines, as per a normal crate engine but DO NOT have the intake manifold and associated parts.
This means that they DO have coil packs and leads, exhaust manifolds and all sensors (except for manifold related sensors)...
Apparently these motors are in Melbourne.
The fact that these are VX2 (02 model) motors may turn people off (for compliance reasons), but if anyone is still interested just send me a PM on here, or e-mail ls1tune@optusnet.com.au
Cheers,
Bobby Brown
