This is Cameron's Superformance.

Word on the grapevine is that he already has a few interested parties.

It's a Superformance with no expense spared, registered and approved here in Aus. You don't get that sort of opportunity every day.

Really here in Europe people are asking around 120K for SPFs...with chevy engines!!!!But perhaps is better this true original Shelby Cobra with Side Oiler (rear mounted), original 1965 look, etc........ only 250.000 US$...Ha, Ha.....

Forumers...It's a beautiful car......Shelby endorsed......personally I think we shouldn't comment on what an individual person is asking for their respective cars and it's perceived worth....

It's a very small world and unproductive comments make for nasty situations. In saying that, yes, I know this car and the is owner is a friend of mine..he is a fairly regular contributor to this forum.

My personaly belief is that one should see the car, speak to its owner and form an intelligent and educated opinion on it. I'm all for freedom of speech but we have to be careful not to offend based on comments we make on an open forum. I am sure however that the earlier comments on this thread were not intended in a derogertory manner.

Just my 2cents worth.

Yes, it's mine... thanks Craig and Matt, but no need to jump in.

It's ultimately worth what someone will pay for it. And yes I have a verbal offer on the car that will buy it, if they come up with the $$$, it's theirs.

As some of you know, I will be leaving our shores for a few years, if I sell the car, there will be a happy new owner, if not, I will store it until I return.

About a $120K US dollars I think.

Shelby authorized? OK, whatever...

I wonder why more people arent importing them? The mark-up seems substantial enough to make it a worth while business venture? Must cost a lot to get them approved and legal there.

There is an Australian Agent for Superformance. CTC (Cobra Technology Center) Camerons car was brought in through them.

Building a legaly registered Cobra down here is a difficult proposition for any regular Joe let alone a company building turn key cars.

If he can get his price then good on him. There's people out there that will pay the money to get a top notch Cobra without the hassle of building it yourself or waiting whilst someone else does it for you.

A few years back you would have needed to shell out $120K for a Turn Key Robnel. And that wouldn't have the engine spec that Cameron has either.

Thanks for that up-date on how it works 'down under' Mike. The fellow wanting to buy my ERA is in Norway. Were SLOWLY working our way through the intense legal system requirements to get the car in the country. It aint easy.

No doubt the ERA will be worth BIG money there, once he gets it registered. In that respect, I can understand the asking price for this SPF. Which, by the way, looks like a superior build.

Default Profitable to Import?

Hello Slick

Its probably fair to say that Cameron's Cobra approaches the high water mark in terms of price. And probably in many other respects too.

There are not many cobra's for sale on a day to day basis however, as in the US there are a broad spread of prices. The cheapest registered (V8) cobra I've seen within the last several months was $32k ($23-$24k US). They mostly go up from there.

The things that make it difficult to build here, the laws, also make it difficult to import. It can be done but is a bit like threading a needle.

I spoke to someone at our last club meeting who seems to have advanced plans to import a factory five - thought that he could land it in Aus for c.$30k. The key seems to be when the cobra is plated (manif. date) its then a matter of converting to RHD to broaden the appeal (I'm told cars >30yrs dont need RHD?).

Altogether this means that the import route is doable and potentially profitable but the activity would require some craft on the part of the importer and could easily go pear shaped.

Personally, if I were starting anew I would consider a Kit from the US and doing my own RHD conversion. The Kits available here are (typically) far less complete, although with the design rules for new vehicles applying it might be a near thing in terms of cost - but a time saver.

Then there's the whole - supporting your local businesses thing.

A lot of changes are made to the Superformance Aus delivered cars for them to comply with local regulations.

From what I've heard all changes are fitted/made by the factory...nice.

Cameron's 347 stroker engine is also ADR compliant, courtesy of Superformance dealer. Who else has an ADR complient 347, actually who has a 347 with any sort of compliance...

It's really cool just seeing a Cobra without modifications plates, just has factory ADR plate. Gives the police & local transport authority something to scratch their heads over.

When you look at the figures etc, I can't see how local agent makes much money on these. They certainly seem to do it for the love of it. I'm guessing there must be a LOT of love.

I'm glad Superformance are here. The agent adds a lot of support to our club and it's great to see a premium product here. They are definitely not for me though.

Would be great to see Factory 5 cars here as well. Yes, they will have to be right hand drive and will need a lot of work for compliance. Then what engine choices will there be. They will end up selling for a premium compared to local products and hopefully find a niche.

Among other emission control devices (Fuel Injection for instance) I would assume the SPF has undercar catalytic converters?

Very innovative the way some of you guys put the 'cats' inside the side exhaust!

First let me apologies. It was never my intention to criticize the worth of the cobra. Although reading it back it does sound like that. It should have read why is it so special? Being a bit of a newbie I just want to understand.
