Got Some New Bits
Hi Gang,
Well we have some new bits at home. Picked up the engine and gearbox. We will have to start work on them to have them ready to go in. Gearbox does not need a lot of work, however the engine is shy of a fews bits.
We need a wiring loom, throttle body and various other bits. The engine has been laying around for a while so we are going to take it apart and put new bearings, rings and valve springs in. The price we paid was way to good to pass up, so we didn't.

As I sad Mark, the gearbox clearly is not the one you and Pete intended to put in the car, so I reckon you should sell to me, for lets say, a carton of Carlton draft??

Hi Mike
There is no problems with the 5spd when I rebuilt it I upgraded the input shaft, main shaft and other bits to bring it in line with the TKO box but with the higher overdrive for crusing (trying to keep the noise level down).
I am just not happy with the low first gear so I am now looking to buy new (or rebuild) a heavy duty t56.
I gess I am in the same boat as Gareth so how is his T56 holding up.
Cheers

When you know what you need Churchy, put a list in here - I too have some spares.

The heads are off
Well, we took the heads of yesterday and everything seems to be in really good nic. However we are going to do rings, bearings, and timing chain. The valve springs look OK, so we are not going to do them.
So the parts list so far is throttle body and a starter motor.
Cheers

Churchy,
The one must do thing on a Gen111 is the valve springs. I just happen to have a set of Comp 918's available ...only done 500km's. Catch up at the Cobraholic meeting.
Try ebay for the starter and TB.

T56
Craig, mikes handy work in the Viper upgrade in the T56 is good, still hanging in, firm, no shudder, can slam it, up and back thanks to a great verrry expensive clutch.
Waiting to see if it handles a new LS7...
Car in the shop at the moment for a big brake upgrade.
Got to go home after working later these days to pay for all this stuff.
looking forward to seeing you at the nats
Garrett

Hi Craig,
Garretts box got new syncronizer assemblies for 3-4 and 5-6, Billet steel synchronizer keys, new synchro rings and a steel 3-4 shift fork from the viper box.
The gears them selves were in good condition still just the dogs were taking a beating. The pressed steel keys flex, bend or break and cause the synchronizers to hang up when shifting hard causing more wear on the dogs. I think the dogs are going to be the weakest link in these boxes and that all comes down to how hard you plan to shift. Garrett takes no prisoners with the shifter and it seems to be holding up OK (time will tell).
The next step up would be to use a G-Force cluster which has only a slight angle on the helical cut gears (they are almost straight cut). They also have triple cone synchros for 1-2 and 3-4 where the standard box on has them for 1-2 . The dogs on the gears are also removable so you dont have to replace the whole gear.
It's not a cheap option though as the G-force cluster is nearly US$2K before you even get it landed in Aus.
I'd try a beefed up standard T56 first and see how you go.
Cheers
