Taboo question: Can I please borrow your car??
You guys may think i'm a little daring to ask such a question.
The reason for being so straight forward is because I'm getting married at the end of October and i'm stuck with having to hire a wedding car. We have considered all other cars that are available but nothing seems to interest us as much as the Cobra. I've searched every rental cars but have no luck. There is only one for hire in Brisbane (but i can't get in contact with them). I've also considered a few months ago to start building my own but the thought was quickly abandoned (well... postponed anyway) after my fiancee pointed out to me the cost involved with the wedding.
If any of you guys think that you can help me out, or knows of someone that can, please let me know. We are willing to pay good money for the rental and promise to that extreme care of it.

You can use mine for free all you have to do is pay for shipping back and forth and I would appreciate it if you would include my tickets also so I can show you how to do a proper burnout when you leave ceremony with out running over your guests. Good luck with your hunt, I am sure someone closer might be able to help.

Happens quite often in the QLD Club. If you want Cobra's at your wedding make yourself known to the President of the Car Club and it will happen.
The best way to do this is to attend club meetings and activities over the next few months. Show some enthusiasm.

You really sure that your soon to be wife wants wiggle her way into a Cobra in her wedding clothes.
You will soon learn the error of your decision when she locks you out of the wedding suite for the night for making her smell like oil and gas.

Good point! Let's not forget leg burns and I wonder what those hot pipes would do to that long wedding dress! Yikes! As for the aroma of high test octane, I think they call it O'deEsso. Very pricey!

In a Cobra? It's called a "crash-cup."

I have a brother in law, that would love to "borrow" my car. I know that 30 seconds down the road he would be upside down in the rhubarb or wrapped around a telephone pole!

Surely madness you speak.
There is a Cobra hanging on a wall at Breakfast Creek with the sign rent me under it. Try there.
Someone in the Brisbane club must know if that is a rental agency.

Brett,
I think the Company is Jaycar Rentals, but trying to contact them is another thing.
How do you run a rental company if people can't contact you
May be the Cobra for hire is the cut out one on the sign??
I'd like to oblige, but it would be difficult to see a "stranger" pull away in it.
Then again for say $1,000 for the day I might be able to part with it - would still be biting my nails for the rest of the day.
Sorry!
Follow Craig's advice and you should be able to get a couple of Cobra's transporting you for a minimal charge (may be not so minimal with the price of fuel today)

hahahah... thats true... i'll run it by her (and the hair problem too). But we still would love to have on there. If anyone of you guys in brisbane find out the phone number of the rental place, can you please kindly let me know.
Thanks again Craig, I might just do that (as in attending some club events).
Still, if any Sydney-siders feels generous enough to rent me one, please let me know.

hey, I found a company online at www.sportscarrentalsonline.com that has a cobra for hire at their Brisbane depot. A look at the sydney base didn't show a cobra but maybe they can organise something for you. Their phone number is 1800 170 100. I'd lend you mine but I haven't even let the wife drive it yet! If you could see the condition of her car you would understand why...
Cheers Dave

Your kidding!
Mate, I reckon at best you may get some of us to drive for you. ( bags a bridesmaid) but if you're asking to actually sit in the drivers seat and drive it, mate I'd be thinking more chance of Beattie winning the next election for service to the Health Dept!! Suffice to say my insurance policy won't even allow anyone to look at it never mind drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
However, having said that, I'm sure some us QLD guys would be happy to help you out for a fee to drive some of the party around based on beer, petrol money and finds applied. But beware, our cars are LOUD, HOT, WINDY and Addicative.
If I was you I'd be more concerned about dusting the whole wedding idea and just buying a car instead! The last GF said "it's me or the car"!
Don't miss her at all!

Mmmmmm...
$1000 - $2000 rental.
Yeah, explain that one to your insurance company.
I know you guys are really serious about giving someone your $80,000 + car and saying "have fun".
.. ..
If you are willing to rent, then I'm first with my $1000. Damnnn I'll get my moneys worth!!!...

Hey, Jnr Cobra don't be discouraged or think that we are being a bit precious with our cars. It's not really about the money, it more about the chance of an accident happening. You could very well be the safest driver on the planet but driving a cobra is some-what different to anything else. It's not like jumping into a Hyundai that everyone can drive. The seating position take a lot to get use to, heavy clutches, heavy steering, all then there's a WHOLE LOT OF GRUNT to contend with. I know when I bought my car, I was white-knuckled and sweating for a week before I got used to it. Still can't wipe the smile off my face everytime I drive it though...

PCC
Pete,
Let me tell you - you do not want to rent it to me. I thought would have heard by now about my off roading..
ferociousfish,
...yes I'm precious about my car. Seriously though, I think there would be an issue for insurance. I know I have nominated drivers on my policy.
..coming to think of it one of them is my 21 year old son..
Jnr Cobra,
You may have a better chance renting a Cobra as a passenger. 'ferociousfish' is 100% correct the Cobra is not a car that you just jump into and drive.
I have had the opportunity of driving a number of both left and right hand drive Cobras and I really have not been in two cars the same.
Mid last year, I drove across America and back in a GT40 - Route 66 - and had the opportunity to drive a Cobra in anger at an event in London, Ohio. I quickly handed the car back as I did not want to damage it.
Just my $0.02 worth. Again perhaps consider going as a passenger. I have done this for $100 to Ronald McDonald House for a 3 hour trip.
I think a renter Cobra to drive would also be pretty ordinary if one was available.
Again good luck in your search.
