Chrome hand brake lever
Does anyone know what model MG handbrake lever you use in CR kit.
Also has anyone fitted it to the left hand side of the car ?
Thanks Paul

Gday Paul, Mine was from a 72 MGB, but Im not sure if they changed from model to model. I reckon you could put it on the left, just have to move the bracket? I turned up a new grip and button yesterday (inspired by a welll known contributer to the forum - if you cant come up with a good idea steal someone elses ). The rest of the handle looks like a dogs breakfast, but It'll be covered by a boot eventually.

Andrew,
Do you have the detailed plan diagrams for that nice shiny bit ?? Or did it just happen. Did you make two ?
They sure are purdy.

Thieving Scoundrell!!!
Lever is from an MGB. The MGA is very similar except it has a push to lock button rather than a push to release.
I got mine from an MG specalist in Richmond that I cant remeber the name of. Cost me about $150 from memory.
I went for the painted one and sand blasted it and gave it a lick of paint. They have a fairly nasty plastic grip and button so replaced them with a machined up aluminium one that adds some bling and feels nicer when pressing the button.
Cheers

Mine looks a bit shorter and fatter then yours Mike, but according to "Cosmopolitan" its width that is important

I've got wider deeper ridges and more of them plus my knob on the end is bigger. My wife had a pull on it and said the action felt great. Shows what you know

Paul,
Picked up hand brake lever yesterday from MG parts supplier, i just asked for the chrome lever from MGB with 3 CSK screw mounting he knew straight away it was for a Kit car, with that description the part was what was required and fitted to chassis no probs, mind you the chrome is a bit ordinary but will clean up. The MG guy said they came in black painted or chrome, I paid $100 for mine.
regards,
Nigel

Paul
I mounted mine on the left of the tunnel. In the early G-Force the tunnel is slightly scalloped on the passenger side and it sits in just nice. Gives me more room in the drivers seat.
I used a Mazda lever with woodgrain handle. Leather boot covers most of the lever leaving just the handle exposed.

I have seen a Jaguar handbrake used - an early floor mounted lever that was approximately 380mm - 14" long with a pronounced push button top.

Now is this a trick question? - were you put up to this by either SPF or CS himself.
Mmmmm - short answer..
It's a rough 'copy' taken from an 'original copy' that was previously 'traced' from a 'copy' of a xerox 'photocopy' of a black and white 'photo' that was stuck to the WC wall after being allegedly torn from a genuine 'copy' of a book that was stolen from the a reproduction car manufacturer in the UK..
Now I'm confused. Guess, I don't know where it come from..

Bernie looks like both you and your wife can grab it from that position, looks like you can occasionally keep both hands on the wheel.
But i heard you wife dont travel with you much, good thing you got a grip on life.
For the record Aussie Mike modified mine and it works just like his...., but had to have it tweeked, needed more leverage as started to loose feeling at , $hit, OUCH, But But But Babe i wasa just saying fun, OUC, WHACK< OUCH WACK, things to the Guys, OK OK.
For the record when we go parking, WACK Ouch WACK, Sorry when i park the cobra the hand brake works fine ...

Polished Knob
Hmmm...
Since everyone is showing off their knob I thought I'd join in:
Of course, me being the anti-Mike, the handbrake is a spare found in the body on arrival, a piece of angle iron welded to the top of the drive-shaft hoop - a couple of nuts and bolts - and there you go.
Angle Iron and cable ties - everything you need to build a Cobra

Just saw that LOKAR offer a variety of original looking handbrakes well under $200 Aus.
Australian Street Rod magazine #193 page 78 - LOKAR distributor is HOT ROD HARDWARE in Victoria on 03 9752 6555
Same magazine #193 page 54 - LOKAR distributor in Queensland is SUPERFORMANCE on 07 32064400 and www.superformance.com.au
Good hunting......
