Default Buchanan Holden

Has anyone ever herd of a Buchanan Holden looks a bit like a Cobra and built in the mid 50's.
Cheers,
Bryan

Default of course

Obscure cars is my love

I was going to buy one before the Bugatti like a lot of cars in the 50 and 60 they started making bodies then made some chassis as well

They did race at Bathurst in fact the one I looked at race 3 times and beat a couple of C class jAgs there

Different Chassis different engines most were holdeens

Some had hard tops most convertibles

The one I was looking at is still for sale fair amount of work neeeeded but great provinence Ill put you in touch with the guy if you want

Default Buchanan Holden

Hi all,
Thanks for the info. The reason I asked was there will be one in my shed sitting next to the Cobra on Friday.
My son Barry has bought it and it needs a complete restore.
He found it sitting in a junk yard at Lara near Geelong. I'll put up some pics when it arrives for anyone interested to have a look at a fairly rare car.
When Barry first saw it he thought he had found a Cobra. The car has a bonded on targa top hard top and is similar in appearance to the pic below.

Should be a good project for both of us to work on. I don't know who's more excited him or me.

Cheers,
Bryan

Brian
thats a beautiful looking car and I can understand how Barry thought it was a cobra at first glance, certainly from the front.

A very nice mix of classics in the garage to drool over, would make a great Sunday drive & shed meet when the new baby arrives.

Leeroy,
That photo is just one I found on the net to show what the car looks like.
The one Barry is getting is a real junkyard dog that needs a lot of work before it looks that good.
Cheers,
Bryan

Alan,
The Buchanan we have has been heavily modified in the body with flared guards and a targa top roof.
It still has the original Holden grey motor, although it may be stuffed as we cant turn it over.
The chassis looks like the Buchanan pressed metal works one with the square tube like this one.

I'll post some pics later.
Cheers,
Bryan

Bryan

Looks like a great project.

Guess you can use whatever engine etc. Just go the CH plate direction as it will be the best option to get in on the road..

As Leeroy suggested maybe a Saturday or Sunday drive to check it out. Just cool the beer and get the BBQ ready..

Now there you go, poor Michael has been getting a hard time selling the club plate idea into the club and here comes our second potential user!

Nice looking junkyard dog mind you!

Cheers

stephen,

I think the club plate is a great idea. You build a kit with a 351 and toploader whatever you want for induction. Carbies or injection.

You use the car every weekend. Very little restrictions. The club monitors that it is used correctly and not hired out - a big issue with rego authorities at the moment.

Imagine the numbers of cars built. A lot cheaper also...

Default Buchanan update

Well in the rebirth of my sons Buchanan Holden the 138ci side plate grey motor has been replaced by a 500hp Holden 5L V8 built by the same engine builder that did my Cobra engine.
Its also getting a Torana front end with HQ disks and a shortened Ford 9in rear.
Cheers,
Bryan
