Roll Cage
The only negative I have taken back from the nationals is that generally we are getting faster, and some may say too fast.
I would like to add a Cams or Andra spec roll cage to the cobra. I have absolutely no idea where to get the correct information or where to start.
yve and Warrick/Ron have "proper" roll bars, is that style cams /andra approved?
The holy grail would be to have a cage that can be bolted in when needed.
I remember a Gold cobra in a magazine that had the bolt in cage, anyone know who that is??

I must admit after having a few moments at the end of the main staight the thoughts went through my head on how well I mounted my roll bar.

Phil,
That Gold Cobra ran 9's at the drags so expect its is ANDRA approved. Not sure if that would make it CAMS approved.
I have a CAMS manual that outlines the requirements ...I'll bring it over.

Phil,
I have the article, but it does not give a clear view of the cage. It does say that it can be unbolted in minutes, as the guy lives in Tom Price WA and drives to Willowbank some 1600 Km to race! His name is Rob Armstrong.
It is a 1992 DRB. 350 Chev. 9 Sec Qtr......

His NIC on Club Cobra is 9 Sec Cobra I think. He hasn't been on for ages and I am not sure if his email works or if he still owns his car, but maybe it is worth a try.

Yve & Chris(QLD) have a bolt in cage. They take it off when not racing. It also fits in the boot.
I was quite amazed when they drove the Cobra down to Nationals with all their gear and roll cage in the boot.
Phil, shame you didn't have a closer look at their car on the weekend.

Glad this subject has popped up again!
The Harrison racing Cobra has the correct "cams" minimum standard (ROPS)
roll over protection complete with side impact hardware.
Please consult your cams manual for the details.
Not many Cobras roll over, but they spin out alot, so-- side impact is an important issue along with arm and head restraints.
Cobras don't have horse power problems, --safety,handling and "creature comforts" are ---once these issues are addressed you'll be at the pointy end in no time.
Good luck Mr.flatchat

Next Thing to do.
Thanks for the info guys,
I have actually discussed the roll cage with Geoff at GT motor sports today and we are going to get together and build one for the car in the next week.
I looked at the cams and andra specs, it needs to be done by a certifed builder, welder and so one. So I think this is best left to the experts.
I think the car will run 11s on the 1/4 soon so I will go for the full on andra spec cage, somehow.

To meet ANDRA regs, a full cage is only required for vehicles running 10.99 or quicker. For these Cobra's, I think they'll accept the normal roll bar that most have, (open cars quicker than 12.99 up to 11.00 are supposed to have two backstays but I think they'll pass ours up to 11.00).
I'd like to have an ANDRA spec cage that's removable if possible. I'll be interested to see how yours turns out.

Hi Plums, I was looking through your gallery and noticed you had removed the body from the chassis. I thought the G-Force came as one unit and couldnt be separated. Was it made differently to how they normally come?
Regards.

The G-force body is readily removable. The only one that I know of that is bonded to the chassis is the Harrison.
The body will go back on soon as the extractors are almost finished!

Hey Phil they will be talking
Good afternoon,
Hoped you enjoyed Bathurst. Only got to see the results from Wakefield last night. Funny how your position and mine reflected Winton. You on top of me again, they will be talking and the queen will be getting jealous. Congratulations to you both, especially to Karen. See you at Winton.

DRB body is also factory bonded to the chassis.
Up here in QLD we love bonded bodies with their obvious advantages and disadvantages.

Ford power!!!!!
Hey Richard,
Don't forget I had to get a heap more power to do that.
Yes looking foward to winton.
I had the best time at the nationals, it seams to go so quick.
Bathurst was great, the yellow flags and safety car was coming close to destroying the race.
I just saw a news flash and that the guy that had the crash in the lead up to Bathurst has died.
Keep it safe

Race Car
Hey Phil,
Looks like the ambition of owning a street Cobra is changing to owning a race Cobra. Is this for you or your good lady? Power to weight ratio is in her favour. Big favour????????? LOL
Have a great one

Lets not get dirty
Now Now Richard,
That is not very nice, but unfortunately true.
The next performance enhancement, weight reduction, around the waist.
