Default A tragedy of biblical proportions

Say it ain't so.
I just saw the NT Chief Minister announce the end of unlimited speed in the NT. Even the Cannonball is gone. 130km/h max
Boxhead, book yerself in for counselling. What a shame the Alice trip never grew legs

Default More fun!

Hey Rich,

Doesn't this make the Cannonball more fun? We are very very sneaky!

What happens to all the testing on supercars they regularly conduct? oops, were we supposed to know that?

ps: love the pics, thanx heaps

Stef

With about 1 cop on a camel per 500kms I can't see the speed limit being too big a problem!!

I havent seen the news yet but i did know the Martin government where voting on speed limits.
From my understanding the Country Labour Party have made noise that if they are voted back in they will abolish the limits again.
Also there is talk that it has to go to a referendum before passing.

Check out this site, http://www.no-speedlimit.com/No-Spee...aveYourSay.php

And as Gav has said, it is near impossable to police with our open highways and 100.s of kls between towns.

Sounds like a done deal, Boxhead. You're even going to get a point demerit system. No referendum.
Need a lot of cops to keep that road behaving itself!!!

I was in Darwin last week and the lead news story in the local papaer was just that. The open limit will be reduced to 130 Kph, and "others" (not sure what others is) will be reduced to 110 Kph.

It was certianly creating a bit of talk around the "water cooler"

Bernie,

Don't consider them as speed limits merely recommendations.

Cheers!

I used to work for a guy who refered to his speeding tickets as speeding 'permits'.
You want to speed? You need to pay for a permit!

I might be getting old, but I reckon 130 is a good limit...

Default Cash grab

I know a little bit about the road stats in the NT.

Of the fatal accidents there ia a percentage that occur in un-restricted areas. That percentage is not large.

Of that "not large" percentage, if you take out drunk drivers, no seat belts and falling asleep at the wheel, that number is even smaller.

If you look at what remains, and then take out those travelling at 130kmph or over, there's next to nothing. I can see that this is not a statistically driven change, but a grab for cash. All of those highway bush police stations will have a constant work requirement to sit out there with their radar and ping people for the Government Kitty.

When I am driving interstate with the family, 130kmph is more than reasonable, no issue. If I ever finish building this thing, It'd be nice to stretch its legs occasionally.

Sob Sob.....
Hogster NT

(Boxhead) there'll be no re writing the Darwin - Alice record now.

The record can still be set, you might end up with alot of Gav's permits though.
