Electrical bits & pieces
Hey there everyone - time to pick your brains and ask for help in finding the bits I need.
1st up I need to get the timer for the seat belt warning light, I know bits have been mentioned in other threads but I cant seem to find it.
When I was recently in Melb, Syd & Adelaide I checked with the Dick Smith type stores but all the kids behind the counters couldnt help me.
I know that Aussie Mike has mentioned before where he got his from, can you remind me again Mike?
Also is there a web address for the supplier?
2nd question, what is a good brand of immobiliser that I could wire into the vehicle whilst it is being wired up?
Any weblinks would be appreciated too.

Imobiliser
HI Boxhead,
Just check with the Insurance company you will or are using, I know Shannons have a list of recomended imobilisers that should be used.
To wire your car, look at some of the kits available, they are good value and are fairly complete.
I think Tenroca may still have some kits.

Thanks Phil, I allready have the wiring harness kit, and a mate who owns an auto electrics business is going to wire it up for me.
I am just looking at what bits and pieces I need to get and supply him with.

What's your above referrence to wiring kits mean?
I am rapidly approaching the wiring stage and am still tossing up whether to use an autoelec or a kit.

Steer clear of the immobiliser that requires you to touch the fob to the dash mounted sensor. Thats what I have and its a pain. Get a good remote unit. Naturally get the COBRA brand or go for the Mongoose brand and really confuse your Cobra.
Hang out for Mikes advice on the seat belt light. What he came up with is a Gem....like usual.

G'Day,
My RMC had to have the rego spec immobiliser, and Shannons recommendations were very nice but very expensive...looking after the boys !
I used a Rhino unit, which I promptly "blew up" two weeks before my rego deadline. They immediately replaced the unit and repaired the old one ! wow.
This unit has a key fob remote, flashing L.E.D. and many other features available. It was reasonably cheap ( about $190 compared to $400+ and a specialist installer for an extra charge ) and simple to install. I wired it completely under the dash so there was nothing in the engine bay. The flashing L.E.D. I stuck in the seat belt warning light fixture to confuse the rego man further.
As for the seat belt delay timer I bought a kit from Jay-car...you'll have to build it yourself but it was variable timed from milliseconds to years. A bit of overkill but now the car is registered...this stuff is up for "reassesment and alteration" . My, building for rego is so much fun !

I couldnt remember the name of the electronics company but Jay-Car does sound right.

Hi Boxhead,
You could also try Jaycar part KC5392 ( Jaycar Electronics)
This kit is for an time delay for an interior light, but I'm sure could also be used as a time delay for a seat belt light. From memory, this was the part that was mentioned in a previous tread.

WELL, I've just dissasembled the timer and it's a Dick Smith jobby part number K-2807... 0.1 second to 19.4 days. more importantly it costs $30.99 the jaycar jobby that you saw costs $39.95..... there's another Jaycar product which will do the job...cat no. KJ-8109 (project#29) at $13.95. give that one a go.
Now I'll go and put the timer back together and back into the dash circuit.
It's not too much trouble.....the harness is in the loungeroom with the rest of the electrical harness, the side pipes, the seats, and the bonnet hinges.

For the seat belt timer we have them for $45- & the immobiler is insurance co approved ( Cobra brand ) for $320-
Both are easy fit & are in stock.
Full wiring harness is $1580- but not in stock. Painless type harness is $380- & in stock.
