Default OK "Aussie Mike" lets see some update photos

Hi Mike

Well come on lets see some updated pictures on progress...

You have been a little quite for a while - no photos. Must be the fact that you are busy working on the Cobra there. No new projects I hope...

Bernie

Hi Bernie,

Making good progress apart from my incident with the fuel tank.

The engine is up and running. Coolant leaks fixed. Rear brakes upgraded and everything connected and bled. The wiring is nearly all done, just waiting on some new headlight buckets to finish off the wiring at the front. I've also got to tidy some wiring away in the engine bay. A little bit of work let to do on the under body exhaust. I've also got to finish the seats, hang the bonnet and doors and I should be ready for final engineering and rego.

I'll try to get some updated pics in the next couple of days.

Cheers

Yep, I'm still planning on having a go at painting it myself. I'm building it to use so I'm not too concerned if it's not a show quality paint job. I think I'll be able to make it look presentable.

Cheers

Aussie MIke

Mike,

No just arrived back in Mt. Gambier. Back to work for a while...

The old kicking a few heads is going on at the moment as I have had a few people playing up a little. Guess it's my fault as I have had my eye of that ball for a little with other things on the go.... NO big deal but it is really the busy time here with tourist and local holidaying. The blue lake is bright at the moment.

Yes, paint the Cobra you are well set up for it. It will be great and will cost a little less also..

Will catch up soon.

Bernie

I haven't really got any remarkable progress updates to take pics of. It's all been small stuff you cant see lately.

Here's a pic of the dash all wired up.

I fitted the fire extinguisher across the tunnel just under the dash (thanks leeroy). It's out of the way but it's still easy to get to and pull out.

I machined up a gear knob to match the hand brake lever. It's an odd shape but actually feels quite comfortable to grip. You can probably see the big red start button on the right side of the column.

I've also been trying out a bung I machined to go where the wiper control stalk went into the column. I've fitted the imobiliser indicator LED into it. It kind of looks like a pollished aluminum tit though so I don't know if I'll keep it . I might put a socket in it for a dash top mounted shift light that I can remove when not on the track.

I've still got to make a blanking plate for the hole I made in the dash for the heater switch. I think I'll put a 12V outlet on the dash too (might need to charge an I-Pod or a phone)

Cheers

I am fitting a couple of accessory sockets, mine will be mounted up and under the dash so they cant be seen.

Boxhead up out of site is a good idea as you may be able to tuck the connecting cable up there when not in use..

Good progress Mike. Paint it for sure after seeing the bike I'm sure you will do it to a 100% finish.

Looking good Mike!

Are you going to run a big aero screen on it? If not, what is that folded aluminium across the top of the body? Sorry, I haven't checked progress for ages!

Hi Todd,

Still playing round with the Aero screen. It'll be made from Marguard MR10 which is a scratch resistant version of Lexan sheet. I've made a template from thin craftwood but I'm changing the bracket slightly to follow the curve of the dash as well as the curve of the body.

Here's a pic with the template in place:

Cheers

Cool. Are you going to run an actual windscreen down the track? Is this a *cough*way around running 3 wipers*cough*

I think it'll probably stay this way. The car will be more of a race replica style. It may change in the future if I cant stand the wind in the face any more but I'lll be sitting pretty low in the car and out of the elements.

Cheers

It sounds good!

We should have an unveiling of your car and everyone comes to your house for your first drive! When do you think it will be drivable?
