Default ADR compliance stop and indicators

Have been contemplating Lucas L691 and 692 lense assemblies for my car.

I've been under the impression that these lenses are ADR compliant, which for us usually means having an E stamp.

Can anyone comment on lenses with an A stamp in a circle instead?

The lenses I've found are claimed to be off a Hillman Imp. Does this sound right? I know the 691/692 were used on Healeys but the Hillman claim is new to me as well as this A stamp. I'm struggling to get more info. as these units are OS not local.

If anyone knows more on these lenses please comment and particularly if anyone can shed light on their likely ADR compliance.

Cheers

Gday Slowy,

I have 8 of these lights, some new, and some NOS. and 2 extra clear lenses. Out of the 10 lenses, 4 have an E mark, and the remaining ones dont. Im assuming the e-mark is recentish (last 10-20 years maybe) and anything older may not have it, even though essentially its the same item. I plan to just borrow a couple of E marked lenses off one of the locals for engineering, and swap em back afterwards. Same with my liscence plate light, which is NOS, and doesnt have an e-mark, but exactly the same as the new ones.

Cheers,
Andrew

Thanks Andrew

Can anyone comment on the A in a circle compared to the E as normally needed for ADR compliance?

Does the A have any significance?

Cheers

Slowy, how are you going to arrange your indicators?
I have now fitted lucas tail lights to my CR. I will be making the brake lights flash, rather than fitting indicator lamps.
I'll take some pics tommorrow, the body work has come up a treat it wasn't anything near as difficult as I thought it would be.

Default E marked

I have found the same problem regarding E marking.
I'm using the "old school" Hillman Minx tail lights and finding some that are E marked is IMPOSSIBLE !!!!!!!
So do what I did cast some up with E marking on them.
Find a flat E marked light take a silicone mold from it , cast a thin flat pannel with the E marking on it.
Then carefully remove enough materail from you illegal light and glue the new E marked pannel in its place.
Then simply remold the new tail light in silicone, and once dry ,de mold and cast in clear polyester resin with either red or amble transparent ink to give the correct colour .
Put together and hey presto E marked tail lights !!!

The L539 light, which is also used a bit (mainly on the front) is also not produced with an Emark, even brand new. Im assuming it is because it doesnt meet the minimum visibility or brightness standards set by the autority that "awards" the emark, or lucas hasnt botherd getting it tested? If you cant find the hillman lights with an emark, it might be that they just dont meet that standard - Standards scmandards I say! Really neat idea Paul...you REALLY wanted though rectangular ones didnt you?

Little off topic - Looking forward to seeingthe pics Gav - will be getting stuck right into the body work proper very soon. I ordered a set of these last week - figured if Im going to have a crack at it I better get the right tools - The FF forum guys reckon these are the bees knees:

Thanks once again guys, but I've only got until year's end to get registered, sounds like way too much work for a light I wouldn't mind using.

I'll settle for the 691/2 versions as they do come E stamped but clearly what I've found must be older versions.

I am still at a loss about the A instead of the E in a circle. This seems all too coincidental to not mean something standards wise - so can anyone help with info on this?

Cheers again

That is right Steve, the L691/692 were used on Hillman Imp, and some others including, Humber Vogue.

Mine originally came from a Minx, but have come across a few at swap meets over the years. I run red stop tail, and clear with amber globe for indicators, you need to modify the globe as they are staggered pins.

Sorry can't offer anything on the A mark though.
