Default RMC Soft top

Hi All,
Just a quick question, I have an RMC that I am restoring, About to do the interior, but need to get my hands on a soft top.
I have tried to get in touch with RMC bu they dont seem to return emails or phone calls.
Can anyone help with either an idea on price to make one or if anyone knows of someone that can point me in the right direction.
See you all soon with my new look.

Dave, trying to contact RMC is a frustrating exercise. Short of walking in their front door I don't know how you can make contact.

Trust me I've tried.

Regarding a softtop. Don Pilling at Snakebite (07 5529 0877) has the bows. Then you can get a trimmer to make the top.

Don used to own an RMC so the bows fit well.

Cheers

Default RMC Roof

Dave,

Here's an early pic of my RMC with roof just fitted (side curtins not zipped in). I used Don Pilling bows and roof was trimmed here in Melbourne. I can give you his name if you live in or near Melbourne

Cheers

Default Green Grass and RMC's

Peter,

Hmmm the grass not so green anymore unfortunately, even living in the rain belt hasn't helped of late.

Les,

Very happy with the car. Has been great particularly after fixing front end wobbles and putting in Indy shifter and modifying the linkages on the toploader. (Short shift and rose joints). Also put Halibrand replica's on with 295 rears. I have the Globes in my shed hoping to sell at some stage.

I do have one problem I have been searching a resolution for. A harmonic shudder from the rear end from 95 - 105 Kms. It is more annoyance than anything else but it is one of those things that will drive me mad . There are a few of us who are convinced it is a rear wheel balance issue, not sure yet. Have rebuilt tail and half shafts and all balanced. Hubs have been checked and bearing preload checked, all OK. Organising on car wheel balance hopefully this week, hoping to solve it.

Dave,

Chris O'Shea Motor Trimming in Moorabin 03 9555 0002. He is a small operator but he did a great job on my car. Lots of guys here in Melbourne/Vic go to Gary Blackmans in Richmond 03 9428 0525. Good luck!!

Cheers

Tony.

Tony, re the harmonic vibration.

A mate of mine with an RMC had a similar harmonic problem some years back. After many many months of searching he eventually narrowed it down to the RMC supplied shortened half shafts.

Seems RMC had welded the uni yokes on the half shafts at an angle and with both ends being out on both shafts caused a very mild harmonic.

He had two new half shafts made locally and no longer has the vibration.

As a matter of interest I checked both of mine and found one was not perfect.

The RMC supplied modified suspension equipment has proven to be poor standard. Some modified steering racks supplied by them have been dangerous.

Cheers

Tony

Mind if I ask what the soft top cost from the Moorabbin source? Did you use Don's bows or are they from elsewhere?

Cheers

Steve

Default Roof cost

Stephen,

Bows are from Don Pilling.

For just the roof, cost was about $1850 with mercedes / saab cloth.

I think the side curtains were about $300.

Les,

Harmonic is not constant, it phases in and out that's why I am thinking wheel balance. We checked alignment / straightness of yokes on half shafts during rebuild and we thought they were pretty good, will have another look though.

Cheers

Costs extra for that mercedes type cloth, but well worth it in my opinion. That's a great fitting top Tony. We got a plain vinyl top made for our old blue Cobra and it's performance & fit was ordinary when new and very ordinary after a few years in the weather.
