Default A change of pace...

For those of you that know of my passion for overpowered cars and impractical bikes, you'll be happy to know that my latest addition to the garage is much less frantic.

It's a 63 Mercury Comet, complete with a totally stock 260 cube small block and 2 speed auto. I'm leaving it left hand drive, and other than some wheel, suspension and braking changes, it'll stay exactly as it is.

Life in the slow lane can be just as much fun sometimes

I think that's where you clip on the air lines to pump up the air suspension on each side - right?!

And what about that bank of 6 devo-ish looking indicator and stop lense hats.

I'm not usually a big fan for some of that old septic heavy metal but that car looks good.

Thats a beautiful looking classic and not one you would see very often. Great find.
Those wheels look pretty awesome anyway what did you have in mind?

Time will tell!!

Are you sure it's not a suitable vehicle for your Cobra motor?!?

Don't you just love those pipes!?! My fuel lines in the Cobra looked bigger than them... It's a strange setup - there aren't any traditional mufflers, just two hotdogs that are about 2.5 feet long! It actually sounds OK.

Al - the XY is getting a bit of attention now - I'm fitting a 35 spline rear end, the 13" rotors and 6 piston Wilwoods in anticipation of the 460 being replaced by something larger. 600 sounds like a nice neat number for an engine capacity What that means though, is that I have the Cobra engine and a 550hp big block sitting around doing nothing. The guy that imported the Comet nearly pulled out from the sale when he heard that I had the Cobra motor ready to go into my next car. I promised him that I wouldn't do anything too radical, but I had my fingers crossed behind my back...

Leeroy - thanks mate. I knew absolutely nothing about this model until I was actually looking at this one. I've never seen one before, and nobody at any early Ford / Mercury / Lincoln clubs up here seem to know of any around. It doesn't make it super valuable, but at least I'm not likely to have many others turning up at the same events. The wheels are only 14", and I'm tossing up about whether to fit a period style wheel in a larger diameter.

A matter of interest - the registration requirements for driving it left hook mainly relate to seat belts, child restraints, headlights dipping left etc. I have been quoted from $150 to $660 to issue the approval for the mods. It's worth shopping around!

Craig

Very swish

A trip down to the Cleveland Auto Spectacular looks to be in order on the 29th of April looks in order.

Undecided whether I spruce up the Cobra and enter or simply display it instead.

Hope to see you there.
