Dash padding
G'day All
Trust you didn't need too much of this material for the Fest but I am needing to source the material to make up the dash padding required for engineering approval.
Can anyone indicate where this is sourced from?
Is it prefabricated or do you have to make it up to suit dash and desired external look for self?
Any pointers please!
Cheers

Might be worth giving Rob at G-force a call. He did say (ages ago) that he had a "dash pad" that you could just put on for rego....

You could also try the split foam rubber they use around air conditioning pipe work and just cover it with some cheap vinyl.
Cheers.

I went through the dash pad thingo and was rejected with air conditioning duct foam rubber. the correct stuff is what they make boogie boards out of.
I got several busted boards and carved out the appropriate shape and covered it with vinyl. This stuff is blue and has a specific recovery time. the time thing is what is required. My rough little pad has helped to rego one other car !

Yer I know it has to be a specific high density foam. Obviously by the few comments here its carve it yourself type effort.
Is that a correct assumption?
Anyone have a pad they want to sell. I think times against me and it will be one of those items that falls off after rego I'm sure!
Let me know.
Cheers

You could ring Peter Ransom at DRB.
Phone: 07 38072480
He sells them pre formed & suitable for rego.
Not sure of the cost.

Nick

Crash Pad Foam
For compliance in Vic the material that i was advised to use was 2 layers of 10mm 260grade EVA foam, it was also suggested that it was available from Dunlop Flexible Foam supplies in Dandenong Victoria, you could check with your local Dunlop foam supply outlet. I beleive it to be a sandable product after it has been bonded to itself & whatever you use to attach to the lip above the dash. It appears that the 20mm thickness is also a requirement, i haven't had chance to to call by and purchase mine as yet but if i get the time i might be able to swing by Dunlop this week or next. Hope this helps.

Packing Foam is really good too, you can get it with an adhesive back and it appears to be ideal for carving and nice and stiff for head impact.
The other thing I did was use a thick black rubber D section that I split, a bit ugly but fine for Rego

Stephen
I've sent you a private email - I think. You can borrow mine from 1999 when I registered my RMC.

Dash padding and covering
One of the best places to get a dash padded and covered to the required legal standard is a place called
Department of the interior located on the Princes Highway at Carlton in Sydney.
I had them do a dash for my GT 40 which was a very difficult shape and they also coloured it to match the leather upholstery.
Excellent and professional job.
