Default Put the battery in the boot

Stephen,

Put the battery in the boot. Put the effort in now you wont regret the decision.

I cooked two bateries under the hood. I put the battery in the boot last year and wished I had done it a couple of years ago. My engine temp dropped heaps due to the air flow also.

I have bought a Rocket 550 CCA battery (it is a standard size) for less than a standard commercial battery. It turns my old Clevo easily, even when she doesn't want to start. Here's some pics.

Cheers

Very tidy install Tony. You should be proud of that.

Thanks Top Cat

I have already made the boot location decision but I was given a perfectly good exide battery from an SS ute so I want to try and make that fit to save the pennies for now. What did the rocket battery cost? and is it one of those gel type batteries?

Notice the battery disconnect key in the boot, how does that go for race events? Is it a case that you simply must leave your boot unlocked when racing?

Cobber

I'm running both a sandwich and spin on adaptor so am running out of room clearance to the side rails.

I can tee into the exit port heading to the oil cooler, this is the first port the hot engine oil exits out of the engine, to get the most accurate temperature of the oil outside of the engine itself.

I like the sound of the by-pass thermostat but think it will have to wait for now.

Thanks all.

Default Definetly put the battery in the boot

As for your oil cooler Speco make sandwich plates with fitting for oil temp and pressure and i think they also have the fittings in them for the cooler
Don't dump it straight into your sump you will loose oil pressure

Default Switch for Racing?

Stephen,

I have another Isolation switch in the engine bay just in case. Sorry no photo's of this in my gallery, I will try and do one tomorrow.

Rocket battery I think was about $90 - $100 (I got it pretty much wholesale), and I am pretty sure it is just a sealed type but it does have an condition indicator panel on top. The selling point for the battery was the CCA of 550amps most batteries of this size are 450 or less. It comes in handy when I haven't run the car for a while and takes a few more turns to get her running. This is probably not as much an issue with the fuel injected engine you will be running. So far the battery has been excellent. There are plenty of other options but they usually mean more $$$

Mike,

Thanks for the comment. There was just a little cursing and swearing trying to decide how I was going to fit it all into the side area.

Cheers

Tony,

My Cobra is a DRB 2000 with EFI Windsor. Just enough room for the Z9 filter without the spacer, but the Z49A filter is a couple of inches so just fits neatly with the spacer.

I was concerned about the location of the sensor as my oil temp showed up to 120C in traffic, but it may be that the sensor itself is too close to the spacer metal (which get's pretty hot) i.e. the sensor needs to be longer.

Anyway, the car runs okay and I change my oil every 3,000 kms so should never be too cooked (so to speak)
