Wheels
My wheels arrived today - rushed home to trial fit. Bolt circles - perfect - offsets look great, bonus - dont have to machine out the front centre bore (as I assumed I would based on the wheel specs). Not happy with the centre colour (should have been charcoal grey - not mid grey as it is) but I can get painted when I make final color choice. All up im very happy, and I especially like the spinners - slightly ben hur, but not too out there - I have plain centre caps for rego.
I want rubber now
Open look is going to force me to a brake upgrade though.
Heres the rear offset - its a 3.5" front space.
(A decent trolley jack is on my fathers day list BTW)

Nice wheels! I'm not normally taken by anything other than a Halibrand style wheel on the Cobra but those spinners help to keep the balance. I trust we'll see some shots with rubber very soon?!

I was planning to wait for the rubber - I really want to see how they look fully fitted. honestly my ideal wheel is a deep dish hallibrand - I recon the vintage wheels look great. I wasnt going to be happy with a compromise on that style, so I decided to go something different. they are much like the wheels fitted to the factory dragon snake cobras.
Cheers

Hey Sambo - I think Mike got Sumitomos HTZ - tirerack.com has reviews (professional and user opinions) on most tyres they sell.
Tman - they are American Racing Torque Thrust II's. Yep - definately darker grey, but Ill see what goes best with "Pepper White\Taupe\Beige\wild tan" when I get the car painted

Love the look of those wheels. I'm thinking of something very similar myself.
What width rims/offsets did you end up going with???
All the best,
Luke.....

Oi batdan- there my wheels bro (so thats what they look like with rubber) .
Luke - 17 x8 front and 17x9.5 rear - Front BS is 5.5" and rear is 7", which should equate to a front space of 3.5" on both - worked out about 3.375" (3mm) less then that though as overall widths (rim to rim) were only about 0.875" larger then wheel width. you will need to have your body pretty centred as this puts the wheels out as far as I would like to go.
You can get them in full polished or chrome. (torq Thrust II)
http://www.americanracing.com/wheels....asp?section=V
Gav has the polished salt flats which look great I reckon.
Cheers

Mine are 17x9.5 and 17x8 as well. Not sure on offset but no use to you as I am sure would be completely different to what you need.
Tyres are 275/40 rear and 235/45 front.
I searched this site for wheel ideas and sure somewhere someone said the torq thrust style wheels were used on some of the original cars. Not sure if this is true but I like the look, and wanted something different to the norm.

Some of the factory dragonsnake cobras were fitted with torque thrust wheels:

Finally had a nice Saturday to get my tyres mounted and see how they look.
I pushed the offsets and tire sizes out as much as I felt safe and all the clearanes look to be OK. 285\40-17 on the rear and 245\45-17 on the front, Kumho SPT's from the tyre rack.

Getting Closer.
Looking Good Andrew,
I think the grey centers would look great against the taupe paint.

Hi
Just noticed from one of your photos your wheel spinners sticks out beyond the rim.
Could be a problem with rego and or the boys in blue as they could inflict damage to pedestrians.
Just a thought.

Im always amazed at the rules in regards to pedestrian safety - I cant have bonnet locks but look what you can put on a WB ute:
