The date is set
Well it's time to poop or get off the pot. My cobra is booked in for it's inspection with the engineer on the 19th June. Fingers crossed they don't find too many things wrong.
All going well it takes between 2 and 4 weeks to get a VIN after they've submitted their report.
I've got a busy weekend ahead.
Cheers

good-o
I'm sure you'll be fine - having examined your car at length
see if you can sneak it through with the shorties on

I'll have to make sure both the engineer and the the Vic roads office are at the bottom of a hill so I can roll it off the trailer and coast in.

Sorry Mike, that was like a full toss on leg stump. I just had to hit it
I am betting that you will no issues. The quality of your build and the workmanship you have exhibited is a credit. Good luck, I can't wait to see your car at the nationals.

See, that's what gets me!!!
In Qld you can not book your car in for a 'pits' until you have a VIN(s).
After you get your VIN(s) it can take up to six weeks before Qld transport can fit you in.
And if you follow the letter of the law, a VIN number is only valid for 30 day (4 weeks).
The whole variation in Cobra registration varies from state to state and is why the process is confusing.

How does the process work???
I was under the impression that you get your engineers report, then apply for the VIN, then (after you've stamped/applied your VIN to the car) take it over the pits - and pass - then pay your rego..... is this somewhere close to correct???

That's pretty much it. In Victoria we have to get a Road Worthy Certificate rather than go over the pits but I think Vic Roads inspect it as well.

Mike
Is this with Bernie at Enkelmans?
Let us know how you go and what details, if any, they drag you through the hoops over.
Cheers

Hi Slowy,
Yes it is Bernie at Enklemans. He was very helpful on the phone and gave me the impression it would be relatively straight forward process. I'm not going to waste any more of my time with Colin, If he can't be bothered to return any of my numerous phone calls what hope would I have of seeing him actually complete a report on the car.
I've put the LS6 manifold back on just to keep things simple for the people at Vic Roads. I may be confidnent that it won't affect emmissions but I've got no way of proving it without spending extra on testing.
Phil N is going to try out my manifold on his motor and see if it makes any improvement over the LS2 manifold and 90mm T/B. I'm really keen to see the results.
Cheers

Mike
If your looking for place to have a cup coffee during your nervous wait, my factory is abut 2 streets away.
My car is at the factory and is going down to Bernies at the end of the month.
Bernie has been down and looked at the car a couple of weeks ago and was very laid back about it all.
He did suggest that the more information I could give him on where the parts came from, the easier it is for him.
He had a good look over the car and was happy with everything he saw.
So finger crossed.
He has been very helpful to deal with all the way through. I think he can't wait to look at something other than a bus or a truck.
Just give me a ring if you want to pop around.
Rod

Oi Mike, If PhilN finds the new manifold does make heaps more he might not give it back.
Will be very interesting to find what improvement there is. It sure looks more cobra like with that manifold.

G'Day Mike the process isn't that bad and shouldn't take long, the more information you supply the engineer with the better it is, the engineer will give you a VASS, on it will be what the car is made up from and will include a VIN number which the engineer will stamp onto the chassis. miy engineer was pretty strick, measuring stroke, cam lift etc. I consulted with him much of the way, many things he wanted I didn't agree with but, went the way he wanted because I knew that it was all going to change afterward. Once you have your VIN and VASS book it in at VicRoads. I remember mine the only booking I could get was in hoppers crossing,40 minutes from where I lived early in the morning, I drove it there rain hail or shine and boy was it cold. The guy at vicroads had no idea. There is no roadworthy required as it is a new car and the VASS covers all these things, the stamp duty is also cheaper. They will inspect the chassis number and engine number, I took them proof of purchase of chassis/body and engine. I was there for 20 minutes total, brought my own plates with me put them on and drove off, gsmiling all the way home. Within three hours of getting it home I have stripped it completely. Good luck. I am starting another build but with an LS2 this time for a mate. I will have to call in soon.
cheers

Kanga,
How is the car going?
Did you still have issues with the side pipes?
Cheers,
Ben
