Stiffy

I'm tweeking as fast as I can, cause yes I have to be VIN'd this year unlike some with the luxury of extra long timeframes - not sure how those Chebby engines managed to stay legal for so long but I do want to run the AU windsor, so it's this year or bust!!

I will be in my shed this Sunday and am always open for visitors so come on down if you want to. And if I am lucky, will have an operable car to show too - here's praying!!

Will talk more on this on Thursday if need be.

Cheers

Now I didn't say anything about the Camshaft. The camshaft is a "Horsepower mod". All the other stuff is to keep the motor in one piece when it's making 500+ HP hence "reliability mods".

Cheers

Here's a few pics of the car ready for rego. Just waiting on the engineers report and a VIN number now.

Good luck with the final visits. A road trip to Geelong and then the Great Ocean Road coming up...

Looks great, can't wait to see it with plates and a sticker...

Love the "drinking straw" exhaust too, I bet she's quiet...

Mike

Looks very clean, and as I've since learnt, they don't worry about a lack of upholstery which is good as it's just one less chore pre-rego. I need to do too.

What was the protocol followed for the noise test? How far was the noise meter from the car, what revs. did you have to hold at and was it measure in A or C scale?

Cheers

I'm really looking forward to taking it for a few runs. I'm going to have to stick a beany and a warm jacket on though.

Even with the asthmatic pusilanimous 2" exhaust on it still gets up and moves.

Slowy, You're best to ask Bernie when you speak to him next. He'll tell you the oficial noise requirements, I'd probably tell you the wrong thing.

When I originally tested it at home I had it on a setting which covers the whole audible spectrum I think. I did it @ about 1/2 a meter and reved the car to about 3,500RPM. I wasn't sure what the rules stated but it was 87dB on my meter.

Suposedly you have to rev it to the point where the motor make max power which for an LS1 was about 4K. I was sitting in the car watching the tacho with my foot on the gas so I'm not sure what he was doing back there. I think Bernie tested it at about a meter @ 45 degrees to the tail pipe.

You're welcome to borrow my meter if you want to get an idea if your exhaust will pass.

Cheers

Mike

Thanks for the details. I have a meter I can borrow from work, it's just the measuring specs. so that I can test at home before lobbing on Bernies doorstep.

That's of course once I've got the puter back and car firing. Light at the end of the tunnel on that one in that the flashing program wasn't working properly for the bloke modding my computer. So once he corrects his gear I'll get a correctly flashed computer.

Best of all his first go found my computer had lost two coil drivers, from the donor car's original accident and he just replaced the card with a new one he found in a cupboard at work. They wont be needing ten year old NOS so my win at no cost!!

Expecting to get the puter back early this week and we'll see - that's all I'm prepared to commit to for now!!

Cheers

Mike, looks very tough and should present well on the day. Good luck with it mate. I'll try and visit this weekend, provided my car doesn't miraculously arrive.

Where did you get those bonnet latches from?

They are made by a company called Aerocatch. I got them from a place in Sydney called V Sport but I think some of the other guys have gotten a better deal since then.

Here's a link to the Aerocatch Web page: Aerocatch

The engineer liked them.

Cheers Mike. If you go back to the "original" chrome latches is there much of a hole to fill?

Edit: never mind, just checked out the link and it looks like there would be quite a hole to fill. Still, it's a neat looking solution.

Default Ugly Duckling to Prince Charming

Aussie,

They certainly look different from rego time to finished and painted (not just the paint) the stance, mirrors, exhaust and so on.......

Good luck, another Cobra on the road.....

The Aerocatches will stay. They will be painted body colour.

It'll sit a lot lower after rego but should still have 4" of ground clearance. The street sidepipes (with cats) will let the whole thing sit a lot lower and still maintain it's clearance.

Cheers

Hi Mike,
Looking great
Luv the chrome raydots. I'm using them too. Did the engineer like them too?
Also, would you mind telling me what reversing light you have used?
Thanks
Al

The engineer thought the Raydots were OK. I made a taller mount for the right side mirror so you can see over the rear guards. It works quite well and I'll probably make a matching one for the passengers side.

The reversing light is an LED unit out of the Narva catalogue. Although if I did it again I'd do what Gav has done with his reversing lights, they look great.

Cheers
