Default Which gas cap

Obviously the popular choice is the le mans style police alloy roller latch cap.

Any recommendations as to where to buy.
What price in Oz. Internet US about $130 but same again for freight.

Any ideas??

Thanks

What's the go with the filler neck guys, do we need a special unleaded neck or adapter for Australian pumps? Do the authorities require a certain gizmo to enable auto cut-off when filling, etc?

Yes, ADR requirement

Do the authorities require a certain gizmo to enable auto cut-off when filling

the pump does this (as far as I know from my several years of pumping the stuff after school)

Ive always recieved great products and service from finishline. Best off ordering a few things at once to make the postage worthwhile.

Cheers

Yes 'Finishline' is far cheaper than Aust. prices - most get them from the USA or similiar and on sell them.

Enzo at Finishline will have it well packaged and back to you within a week. They are on the left of the 'forum' page

here..<-----

Our dollar is still over .80 cents so exchange is great...

Email Enzo or Paula there to check mail cost.

If not in a hurry to get them to send it 'surface mail' which is usually one week internal USA and then about 3 - 4 weeks to get here.

Default Decision is made

Thanks again

I've gone Septic with the selection of gas cap.

Spending some money with Don Pilling as well on other gear.

I've just spent about 20k on all kinds of cool stuff. When it all arrives I'll take some photos.
Crank, Rods, pistons, heads, intake, distributor, clutch, bell, flywheel, rockers, gauges, wiring harness, gearbox.......blah blah.

3.5 months off on long service leave soon and no excuses. Yeehaw.

What type gauges and what wiring harness (ie for the gauges only or complete car loom). I ask this as I am right now planning what to do in these areas. Wether buy locally or import.
Thanks
Bruce

Bruce, I used the painless 12 circuit harness....very easy. See here:
http://www.painlessperformance.com/a...log/page13.pdf

The Aussie agents are here : http://www.painlessperformance.com/I...ernational.php

Gauges I used VDO cockpit vision.

Default Gauges and Harness

I bought an EZ2 Wire kit, much the same as painless, but heavier gauge, and all black with labelled wire, some of the colour get hard to pick a couple of years down the track. The wiring kit of US Ebay, on special, with freight is about $150 cheaper than one in Australia......thats the final cost.

Gauges are Autometer Cobalt series. I'm going for a blue car......blue gauge lighting at night. The autometers are real cheap over there, but I bought a heap of stuff from Summitt at once, overall it keeps the freight cost down.

What I have learned...............ASK THE SELLER TO MARK EVERYTHING AS "RACE CAR PARTS". This immediately drops your import duty from 10% on regular car parts, to only 5% for "race car parts". PLUS FU%^$@# GST

All said and done I've saved about $4,500-00 buying the gear overseas.

hogster

Add in a trip to the west coast and carry it back in hand luggage and your away..

I have often carried more hand luggage than stored cargo hold luggage.

Pull it out of the pack and don't declare...

Sorry for stealing your thread Hogster
But gauges if you buy a mph speedo from the states MPH be it Autometer or VDO can you just recallibrate it yourself to read in KPH and change the symbol?. Has anyone done this and passed it through the engineering test?.
A VDO KPH speedo in Aussie is $228 Aus in America a MPH speedo $115 US.
You can buy a complete set of imperial gauges from States for approx $350 US as opposed to metric guages for approx $650 in Australia.
Thanks

Autometer do a couple of Metric speedos. I bought the Ultralight series 5" electronic speedo. It reads up to 260KPH where as a re calibrated MPH speedo will only go to 180 KPH

Cheers

The new stewart warner guages come with a push button that can be plugged into the back of the speedo and you can recalibrate it yourself with a GPS.
As Mike said above once recalibrated to Kms/hr you will only have a 180Kms/hr guage.
No one said anything about having a MPH speedo after reg though...

I was just looking at quick jacks and overriders on the Finish Line site. Can anyone tell me whether the "sleeves" in the link below include the necessary bolts and nuts for mounting the bumpers? I can't find them anywhere else on the site and the sleeves don't look like they're threaded.

I just ordered the jacks, and have made up my own mounting hardware just using 19mm aluminium bar with the ends machined and threaded to take a SS done nut.

I suspect the sleeves Finishline sell are just that, sleeves, and you need a threaded rod to go through the middle.

Cheers.

And a decent rod at that - especially if the quick jacks are to be functional!

Thanks mate

From what I understand the quick jacks should never be used as a jack - as that would most likely damage the bodywork. They were fitted to the original race cars only as a bit of a wrinkled nose wasnt a huge issue. I think someone got a tow out of the sand at the last nationals hooked up to the quick jack, and ripped a gash in the fibreglass!!
