Knocking Suspension
After a ride out with other Cobra's at the weekend the car has developed an annoying knock from the driver's side rear suspension (coil overs).
It isn't affecting the handling at all, but on an uneven road it seems to rattle / light knocking sound from the supension area.
Turning the radio up helped
When lifting the car up by the back bumper you get the sound. Visual inspection did'nt show anything loose, but have yet to have a good look with the wheel off.
Any ideas oh wise men?

I think I remember when my rear suspension went to full droop, the locating cup for the spring could dislodge slightly. Always found it's way back in...
On an unrelated point - jeez, Jackie's keen to get me hooked up with someone. I think she was putting in a good word for me. Good on her!

She's my social director!!
Not sure Jackie pushed the point on Sunday, but Warren certainly did - eager for a sexy girl that one (should get the obligatory respone)
Good to see you again Craig; the Mercury is spot on! Not sure about the back seat, but there's plenty of room to do what you do in the front
Heading south then give us a call and we can meet up for a beer!

Perhaps it the same kind of knock heard during cornering that a lady complained to her dealer about during her new car's first service.
The dealer queried which hand corner the noise was being heard and the lady said during both left and right hand turns. That had the dealer thinking, so off to the service chaps.
End of day lady returns to pick up car and asks if they'd sorted the noise problem!
Smooth as silk the dealer says buy a storage bag for your bowling ball left in the boot!!!
DoH !
Perhaps it's the Leprechaun car assemblers trying to get out of the suspension?
Full of good suggestions aint I??!?

PCC, Don't know if this will help but you might want to atleast rule it out. My driverside rear coilover came apart and seemed to ride fine but did knock. At first I thought it was something in the trunk rattling on bumps but when I checked under the car I was suprized to see the shaft from my shock had come apart from the top shock mount. The spring was arched to the side with the shock rattling inside. Im glad it didn't seperate or I would have been sol. When I took it apart I discovered the shaft screws into the top mount with a jam nut to secure it. It went right back together without incident but you can bet I'm watching it real close. It was a new install and I just never checked it before putting it in. Good luck with yours, John

Never mind the seats, there's enough room for a 4 piece bedroom suite in the boot! And yep, you're right about Warren. He's a funny bugger.
I hope you get your rattle sorted. As long as it just stays a rattle, it's not so bad. If it's a rattle caused by the last wheel nut desperately holding on as the wheel flogs around on the mounting flange, then maybe it's something that requires more urgent attention...
Not that I'm being alarmist!

Well after an inspection the shock mmountings look okay. Greased up the trailing arm aand back on with the wheel.
Bounced the car and clunk on the drop.
Is this likely to be the shock on its way out (bottoming out)?
Will have a further look when the kids come home to confirm.
What is the cost of a couply of Koni coil overs (if that is what the problem is!)

Well after plenty of lying under the car I am stumped.
Took out the shocks and cleaned them up. Checked the mountings and rubbers and everything a okay!
Inspected the exhaust / drive shaft (basically anything that can move) and all seem to be okay.
Can't think of anything else so I will have to take it down to my mechanic and put it up on the hoist for a comprehensive look.
We'll get there
