Cool Snakeskin Magazine Content submissions

Hi Folks,
I am just starting to put the 1st "New Look" edition of the Snakeskin Magazine together and so am in the hunt for decent content.
particularly of good examples of build projects or finished cars. anything thats a little different or just if you want to have a say in the mag.
This is Western Australian based, but will be available for download here (hopefully) as a PDF.

I will be printing Colour hard copies in limted numbers as well.
so feel free to PM me with any ideas and/or links and i will consider them for the next issue. its going to be a mnimum of 28 pages.

So come on you West Aussies, give us your stories!! wanna get this to press by early August.
thanks
Rob Pampling
Snakeskin editor.

I hear the QLD mag is not too bad. Anyone got a copy i can see?

Rob,
I have a few nice shots of AC Bristols w/ my Kirkham - sort of the grandpa-rotten kid thing.

If you are interested, let me know and I'll get you some links.

Hi Everyone, I am very unhappily having to to tell you that the CobraClubWA decided they did not want to proceed in the direction i wanted to go with the club newsletter / magazine. I was not at the meeting due to business committments and so was not able to answer some of the "older" members questions. They have appointed someone else as editor at the recent AGM and it seems they are content to put up with their black and white photocopied thing. Sorry to raise your hopes and expectations. I have finished the PDF Magazine, so if anyone wants a copy, just PM me and i will email it. it is about 9MB in size. cheers.

well obviously, i thought the magazine was pretty exciting, but it seems club members arent interested. at the moment I am not sure if this is really a club that is capable of growing and moving forward.

I tend to agree with your statement regarding the club, I don't think I'll be renewing my membership this year.

No offence to any Cobra Car Club of WA members, but.....
There is a great bunch of guys that are currently building cars that "sometimes" attend the meetings, Paul, Perry, Andy etc.
To be honest though, there is generally zero Cobra building talk, and 99% Cobra cruising talk..... Most of the members have already complete cars, and have no interest in cobra building conversations...
This is my opinion only and I hope I don't put anyones nose out of joint.

I enjoyed attending a Melbourne Cobra meeting early last year, with lots of building talk, engine discussion and best of all drag racing conversations...

Perhaps we need to start a WA Cobra Builders Club!!!

Let's face it though, who needs a club in order to talk about building their cobra. Stock the fridge, fire up the barby and get the lads over any time!

OK well, if there is enough interest, I have the capability to start a new club. it would have a wicked mag and we would do alot of talking about building, perhaps do track events (current club not interested) and a whole lot of other stuff that is fresh out of the ideas bag.
Oh yeah we might even go for runs, and invite some of the the more interesting CobraCarclubWA members along.
let me know anyone in WA ???
i might even do the magazine as a natioinal publication , we'll see.
I can incorporate an association (club) no problem.

cheers everyone, Rob.

Missed your post above. There is no specific QLD mag, we just submit articles to the National Cobra mag.

We tend to rely on our web site for local articles and updates.

Jeez guys - sounds like Melbourne!!

I'm not so sold that the split here is such a great thing but it sounds somewhat similar for you WA folk.

Would it not be better to ensure that you current builders ALL turn up to the next meeting and push the barrow instead. I'm guessing because it's an even smaller field over there that a cobra build would usually be few and far between hence the current stagnation in the WA club.

I might be wrong and it can be personalities but I'd shake the tree first as a unified club would be better than smaller splinter options!?!

Keep on building though!

Cheers

yeah I think you are right. the guys in the WA club are a great bunch of fella's its just that all the decisions are made by the older members who are also on the committee, and as soon as a new member Like me (3 years) comes along with some different ideas, they just seem to squash them. Like I tried to talk to the web master about getting a better site. I got the impression he was offended but he also just didnt see any need to change or improve anything. I really think they look at their bank balance every month and decide they cant afford it. But they also have just rejected in whole an opportunity to raise a bucket load of revenue which would have funded a colour mag and possibly other things as well. I actually got good sponsorship support form a number of different companies.

Personally, i think shaking the tree will just make a mess on the ground. which is why the majority of cobra builders here dont go anywhere near the club. Even the local kit manufacturers here will tell you how much they are not impressed with the club and dont bother that much either. I have only been more activey involved with them recently and already my experience with them is enough to make me give up on them.
I think the club oscillates around 60 members but you'd be lucky to see about 20 at the club meetings.

I'm currently building a Cobra in WA and would be interested in a beer or breakfast to talk about the ins and outs of getting things together and through rego.

I have been involved in other clubs before and now and steer a bit clear of them after being in a fishing club that got ruined by a few people to serve their own interests, they didn't even go fishing but loved to administer...

Not too sure about splinter cells, new clubs or re building old clubs, I will stay out of that, but an informal Sunday morning breakfast meet at say Freo E shed markets or Cottesloe to discuss building would be my vote. Anyone welcome, somewhat along the line of the QLD guys that meet up at Santuary cove.

Just an idea, and see where it goes from there.

...My thoughts on the Victorian Club are a little different.

I find the meetings in Victoria are both varied in discussions and in events organised. By comparison to other auto clubs they are well run and allow input from members. The committee is striving to provide every opportunity for members.

..

Economy run, Phillip Island Classics, Shelby Fest, Nationals, Federation Square display, Xmas in winter, Christmas in December, cruises, weekends away in the High Plains, Debs' fishing trips and regular breakfast runs to South Melbourne.

All just a few of the well organised events that we can participate in.

The few meetings I have been to, have resulted in finished cars being driven afterwards to a number of garages to look at projects, to give advice or just talk cars.

Don't forget we all have a two seat convertible so events involving families are not often listed.

The Victorian Cobra Club is both growing in numbers and activities, caterering for anyone building or desiring to build. Members are invited to be part of the committee when all positions become vacant each year. So anyone can have input.

Having looked at the number of members who have left the club over the last few years.... I found few if any have been on the committee - so guess they cannot blame the club or the committee if their expectations aren't met.

I think the Victorian Cobra Club would welcome any opportunity to promote or contribute information to a magazine...

Bruce Allen South Australia the 'Snaketales' editor has been asking for assistance with the magazine for a long while.

Good luck with the magazine..
