Default Preparation for the Nationals.

The nationals are not to far away, and as usual I have a car that is in 5 different suburbs

Nothing like a deadline to get things done.

It would be interesting to see what things are being done or what needs to be done to your car heading up to the Nationals.

The car looks like this now.

I have also decided to enclose the trailer with a canvas cover, the frame is done.

That's dedication Phil - good luck with the remaining preparation!

When does the tow bar go on the Mazda?

Apart from some wheels, you look pretty right to go, Phil. How about aluminium instead of canvas for the trailer?
For my part I've just had an oil cooler fitted and will get the brakes checked.

I am prepared, plane tickets bought, accomodation booked.

I know I said "next time I am at the Nationals, It will be with my own car" (was such a tease being there afew years ago just watching everyone drive) but I am going to be in Sydney and Bathurst the weeks leading into the nationals so I convinced Ronda (the boss) that it would only be a small diversion down to Goulburn.

So I will see you all there.

Forget the tow bar Sambo.....I can see that trailer having a fold out bunk, and small galley. ( kitchen to you non-nautical types)

Ohhhhh.... and a fridge

Phil.... Not the trailer! You know I had been contemplating that myself but funds and time have not permitted...

I have a few things to prepare for the Nats.. The main thing at this stage is being in the country as I "may" be in Indonesia. Deep deep in the Indo jungle chasing the waves... Yep, only a surfer knows the feeling!

If I manage to not go... I will be there... With trailer and car in tow... I have some unfinished business at that show and shine that I plan on dealing with this year... if I make it!

Oh and that 1.15 lap time too.... So much to do... so little time... and $'s!

Sambo,
I am trying to get rid of the bubble. the car never gets driven these days.

Plums,
Yep body if off for painting, I have been running arround with a half finished car for too long now.

Richard,
I have designed it so that when I don't need it it can be disassembled and packed away much like a tent.

Spookypt,
This solves a problem I had transporting the car with the cage in, as I had no wet teather protection. This was the best solution. I hope you make the nationals would be good to see you and your car again.

Phil

Looks like your putting some serious negative camber on the front there Phil

I'm hoping to pull my motor down before the nationals and bolt a few new bits inside it.

Cheers

Phil with your expertise I reckon your trailer could be easily transformed into a nice little earner for the Nationals

Hi Brett,

I don't think the cam will be going in for the nationals. I'll probably just do the stuff to keep the motor alive for sustained high RPM. I don't want to fall victim to the same misfortune that struck Leigh. These earlier LS1 motors are known to have oil pumps and rod bolts fail so I want to sort both of them out before pushing the car too hard.

I'll be mainly concentrating on getting my braking and cornering sorted. The car just didn't want to pull up at Winton but I've since changed the front pads for something a bit more aggressive and they work real well. The springs were crap too as the car sagged about 1 1/2" over the weekends racing and to get the chassis level there's a huge difference in the preloads on all 4 corners. I think a set of good quality Eibach springs will need to go in to replace these recycled bed springs that are on it now.

I hope to have some adjustable tubular sway bars built for it by then too.

Cheers

Aussie Mike

Mike,

Sounds good. Will you get it painted before the Nationals? Still going the silver and burgundy?

Well as the old saying goes, once you tell someone it's no longer a secret.

Looking forward to seeing some of the gelcoat cars painted, it will totally transform them.

So Phil, do you think your body has well and truly settled by now?

Default Looking good

Craig,
The body has settled nicely however I did have 5 years of modifications to fix. The Guys at lingane did an excellent job of getting it into shape. The body is at Bad Image now for something a little different with the Paint.

Rich,
Excellent idea,

Mike,
I pick up my new arms today, I had some Chrome moly ones made with adjustable rod ends, that should fix the excessive camber.

Hey Phil,

Are you still doing the LS1 kill signs on the side?

Cheers
