Original Cobra for sale in Melbourne?
I found this car for sale on the internet and had to look twice. The seller says it's an original Cobra with papers to prove it, for $54,900.

Wouldn't an original aluminium body be worth that alone?

Interesting - it has a 4l turbo and a 347 stroker as well. And its the "Exact body shape of an original"...

Yeah, definitely a DRB, you can tell from the engine bay and general body shape.
Looks like an old shape DRB with the smaller rear guards etc. If they had a shot of the cockpit back wall, that would prove it. So must have taken a long time to build it as the old shape DRB's finished in 1995.
The person who wrote it does not know a lot about the vehicle, a lot of the details are screwed up.
And this is the gem.
"Although it says replica it is actually an origional with paper work provided to verify"
They are all originals, no two replicas are exactly the same.

The old say don't believe everything you read comes to mind.
Previous assumptions about the owner's lack of knowledge seem true but then he could be bending the truth to get a better sale opportunity as well.
That other old great saying comes to mind - you can fool some of the people all off the time and....................
What more can I can say but... Caveat Emptor!

I KNEW it...I never forget a nice Cobra!
Took me a while, but I found it amongst almost 10,000 photos in my "Cobra" file on the computer.....geeeez...that's sad when you think about it.
Especially sad when I look at the number of files/photos in my " Family and Friends" file, and there is less than 2,500 .
Anyway....the "original" Cobra was originally owned by one of our Queensland mob, Milton Day, and the attached photo was taken at our Cobra Breakfast meetin in November 2003.
Mystery solved I guess.
Not many "sleeps" until the Nationals.......Hey...I might get some photos for my file!!!!.................REEEALLY looking forward to it...
Regards to all,
Warren Boylan.

Wazza,
Sitting and scanning photos would no doubt bring back some memories of..
"....wonder where that Cobra is now"
"...yes like that car"
I found myself doing exactly that the other night as I went through the early US photos I had on the camera and discs.
Not 10,000 though. Would make a good 'slide show'...

Some time ago I found a replica for sale that purportedly was "a real Shelby"---it even had "papers" to prove it. Just for kicks, I sent it to SAI and asked them to comment. Apparently, Carroll Shelby back in the 70's or 80's "authorized" a replica manufacturer and provided some Shelby insignias and paperwork to go with the car. This car "may" be one of those...

Simply a DRB - It even says so - mind you whatever the seller purports may not be believable. Its got the DRB back end (quarter).
Prices seem to be lifting maybe?

Definitely nothing too special that would warrant any claim of being "Genuine".
It's a DRB built at Yatala,Qld, and the 347 stroker was built in Brisbane, (In Redcliffe from memory ) and it was also a little "underdone" from memory ( A few good parts, but a few bits of lesser quality as well)
Milton ( The owner at the time...lovely bloke ) was very happy with the interior, which was quite well put together, but always kept the bonnet down , wasn't too exited about the engine's looks.
Sold it to buy a house.
I still have his contact numbers on file if anyone needs background on the vehicle, and might be interested in purchasing.
Regards,
Warren.

Just pointing out that Shelby "authorized" some replicas some time back. Just because Ol' Shel say's it's okay, doesn't mean it carries market value for the endorsement.
Would I buy it thinking it was genuine because of the endorsement? No.
Did the current owner? It would appear so, unless the guy is an outright liar. Don't know him, so I don't know his circumstances or state of being.

Re, Wazza side on photo for me the seat is way to high the guy is looking straight at the top of the windscreen. His shoulders need to down near the top of the door but thats just my preference.
Cheers,
Bryan

You're definitely right Bryan,
Milton was a body builder with the biggest shoulders you've ever seen, and then his DRB still had the "Old" style floor,
i.e. under the seat it actually stepped up about 2 inches.
The overall effect was as you see in the photo.....it made him look a bit like he was driving a GoCart !!....no offence ....just an odd look.
The lower you can sit..... the better.
Regards,
Warren
