Wow Bloody Wow
Dropped into Blair's place on the way home from working in Cairns for the day. As usual the topic of conversation turned to cobra's (in a very short time). After several discussions regarding engines, gearboxes, darksiders, wheels, gauges, more darksiders and everything cobra, Michael offered me a drive of his Cobra. So out onto the highway for a spin. missed a couple of gears and then slipped into it Wow bloody Wow. Just like my ride last time, I can't get the smile off my face. I think the missus is going to ban me from working in Cairns, can't understand why as I was only a couple of hours late.
Hodson PS don't forget the NQ breakfast in Townsville on the 19th Aug. 0830 at the Centenary Hotel Ph 47213522 |
All work and no play....
Good to hear that you had a good drive. The Harrison with a 4.6 will go ...Wow bloody Wow also..**) |
Yeah, I would love to go for a spin in Blair's DRB, certainly one sweet ride.
You will love the Harrison, with it's lighter weight, you will have to make careful use of that loud pedal. After having a DRB for years I can still remember the first test drive in our Harrison, it was a neck snapping experience. Both cars had very similair HP output at that stage, we never thought that the weight difference would be so noticable. The acceleration now with the hair dryer fitted scares the crap out of me. I'm all right if I'm driving, but as a passenger it's scary as hell. |

Is Blair still married...must be what??.....a couple of months since the wedding? ;) |

Like I told you Hodson, I wish when I was buying/building my Cobra someone took me for a drive. It would have been great to get a taste of what was to come. And seeing I am the only one around here it was my duty to do so. And 400TT is dead right. Every 50kgs you take of these cars you notice in power to weight acceleration even when just driving out of the driveway.
What is the difference in weight say between a DRB/Harison/RMC/CR & then say an alluminium beast like Sir Parson'. I know adding all the chrome and other bits adds weight. I'll take mine down to the weigh bridge today and find out! Can't wait for the breakfast. Looks like 8 Cobras so far Still married to . . . |

He should do, won't cost much with the cheap air fares. :JEKYLHYDE Mind you, if he takes his harem he'll have to book the whole aircraft.  |

I'd LOVE to be there, but I've arranged a run to Toowoomba on the same day, for the SOUTH Qeensland mob. ( Might change this to the Leyburn sprints yet...stay tuned.) mmmmmmmm......it would be nice having my own harem.....they could help me clean the cars !! Those "light weight " Cobras are all the go ...I can recommend them! My Street/ Black Cobra is a DRB that was manufactured by Warwick Harrison in 1998, and as he was making it for himself, (and as an experiment at the time ) a great deal of effort went into getting the weight down. Lots of Alloy, and Alluminium used, and consequently, I have a DRB that weighs 1,048 kgs.( with 1/2 tank of fuel) Makes a world of difference when the stroker gets a kick in the guts that's for sure. Regards, and have a GREAT North Queensland meeting. I look forward to hearing about it, and hope there'll be plenty more to come. Kind Regards, Warren. |

Full complete Cobra's ranked roughly by weight: Warrens DRB: 1050kg's (had the Harrison diet) Harrison Cobra: 1050-1100kg's Classic Revival: 1100-1150kg's Superformance: 1150-1200kg's DRB: 1200kg - 1250kg's RMC/G-Force: 1200kg - 1300kg's DRB GT40's: 1200 - 1250kgs (they are all full of creature comforts these days - air con, electric mirrors, cruise, remote locking) This is just a general guide, as some peoples cars will be lighter, others heavier than average. I took a bit of a guess with CR and G-Force as I don't have first hand experience with their weights. My brothers Harrison, is not full trimmed, not all body accessories, no paint, Lexus V8 etc, so is a very light Harrison. Blair, the Superformance Cobras are glass, not aluminium. You might be thinking of Kirkhams. |
You might like to revise the CR weight there Craig. Phil Neall's was 1050KG when he got it registered. I hope to have mine on the scales in the next few weeks and I'm expecting it to be around the 1000-1050 mark as well.
I guess it also has a lot to do with what kind of trim and accessories you are running in the car too. There are plenty of places to cut more weight out of it as well. The cast steel rear arms weigh a ton. Some tubualr 4130 items will probably strip an easy 20-30KG off the weight. Cheers |
From memory I think my CR was 1084kg when reg'd. Not sure how much petrol was in the tank though.

I'd LOVE to be there, but I've arranged a run to Toowoomba on the same day, for the SOUTH Qeensland mob. ( Might change this to the Leyburn sprints yet...stay tuned.) We all reckon that you should leave the day before & come north instead, stay a couple of days, drink alcohol, chase wild woman (oops don't tell the missus), talk cobra's, have breakfast, talk more cobra's & then you can go home all happy & excited. You could even alternate between meetings. Are we the only state that has two chapters of the one club - Go Qld. Best Regards Colin |
Drink beer......chase wild woman
What have you in mind?...... a trip to Palm Island?. ;) He'll love that......you'd have to drag him away.   |
What weight is a fully trimmed, painted and accessorised CR? I find that hard to believe it could be less than 1100kg. I thought that separate body & chassis unit construction would have to mean you end up with a heavier end product. Considering they only test the chassis itself for torsional tests.
I can believe that Aussie Mike's could be close to 1000kg's. An equivalent Harrison would weigh in at less than 1000kg's, maybe even 950kg. Ours was less than 1000kg when rego'd and that was with full screen and we didn't bother with aluminium anything or trying to make it lighter. In my experience they always end up on the heavy end when fully dressed. |
"Sound engineering principles" and ".......manufactured from the latest aerospace materials" :)
Lets whack em out on the bench and compare hey  |
Don't know what a fully trimmed CR would really weigh. Probably 1100-1150KG
I've tried to keep everything to a minimum on mine. It doesn't have a winscreen or associated stuff, no heater etc. No Door handles even, just a cable running accross the door that you push to release. It'd be nice to be under 1000KG but I think I'll be closer to 1050KG. Cheers Edit: It's probably irrelevant when your a fat ba$turd like me anyway. |
Cable door release, just like the Ferrari F40's I used to dream about as a young man..... cool :)
|
Cable door release, damn I have that
Must be the darned Carpet, or trim, or leather, or that confounded AC that is bringing up the weight. No.. Wait... It's the fat guy in the drivers seat... :JEKYLHYDE Bugger Cameron Must eat more rice.... Must eat more rice.... As in Mike's Edit... ditto |
Cameron.
Would that fat guy in the driver's seat be me? 03 still going strong! Richard |
