Default Cobra Built Before 1989 Can Be Imported To Aust. Easy.

IF THERE WILL BE PROBLEMS GETTING CARS REGISTED HERE IN THE FUTURE, IT MAY BE AN OPTION TO PURCHASE AND IMPORT A COBRA FROM THE USA.APRAT FROM THE LEFT HAND DRIVE ISSUE WHICH WOULD NOT BE A MAJOR PROBLEM TO RECTIFY,IT SHOULD BE EASY TO IMPORT A COBRA. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY QUALITY CARS BUILT PRIOR TO 1989 , I SAW AN ERA FOR SALE AT us$37,000 WITHH VERY FEW MILES ON THE CLOCK BUILT IN '88,ALOT OF PEOPLE THERE SPEND MEGA DOLLARS BUILDING THERE CARS AND ARE SOLD AT A FRACTION OF THE MONEY SPENT.YOU NEED TO AD ABOUT 20% TO THE PRICE PAID + SHIPPING us$2500.THIS MEANS FO APROX $60,000 AUS +RHD CONVERSION YOU CAN BE DRIVING ONE OF THE BEST COBRAS IN AUS. WITH SOME PEOPLE ASKING 70 ,80, AND UP TO 140K?? (FOR A SUPERFORMANCE)IT MAY BE AN OPTION. I KNOW ALOT OF THE PLEASUE(& PAIN) OF BUILBING YOUR COBRA IS A GREAT EXPERIENCE.

I dont think it is a requirement for the car to be right hand drive.

i know in W.A. yoy can rego a car LHD if it is over 15 years old.i dont know if you can rego it under club plats LHD ,but i will find out . 99% of cobras are not daily drivers so LHD is not a problem for most people, just dont get in the passenger side to drive off in front of too many people .Looks a bit stupid with no steering whel there.

I could see myself doing that. Doh.

On more than one occassion I've gotten into the daily driver and reached into the center of the car for the seat belt. I've even had people ask what I was doing. I seem to have a big problem with that after travelling with the Cobra for a week for Nationals.

There are not a bunch over here but they do exist. My Unique, although titled as a '66, was built in 1986.

Some time ago I had my ERA sold to a guy in Norway. I had to provide documentation to PROVE the car was built BEFORE 1986 for that country. I could only 'prove' the car was first registered in 1986, in Texas, which was a year to late. The deal fell through as a result. Seems Norway was looking for first year of registration not actual build date.

Lewis, it's something I wrestle with from time to time, sell or not sell. If I DID sell it would be at a most reasonable price, I wouldn't 'hold it' hoping to some how increase it's value. It is not currently offered for sale anywhere, but I would entertain inquires. Send me a pm or e-mail if you would like to discuss further.
