Default Top Fuel crash.

Saturday night at Willowbank Raceway saw one of the most spectacular crashs in Australian top fuel history.
My brother in law Darren Morgan is in the other lane, he used to drive the Lammatina car until a couple of seasons ago.
Phil walked away from the crash with no injuries.
Can you imagine doing 500km/hr, and under power having the car flexing so much it breaks in half?

Boy Phil was one lucky guy. To walk away from that has used up a lot of his points with the big guy upstairs. Time for another hobby or a better engineer.

Default Oh My Lord!

Hi Gav, Willowbank has some terrible memories for me, My good friend Louie died there some 12 years ago. Louie is Santos son of Santos cranes, now Uplift cranes. We used to pinch Santo's methanol and put it in our cars and race down his street and get told off so badly by Santo it was so much fun. The fact this guy walked away is just unbelievable. Louie wasn't so fortunate, he blew a hole in the block (a window as it is known in the drag scene) just past the launch pad and veered directly into the armco head on, didn't stand a chance. The month before Louie died he was racing against Jim Read, also at Willowbank and Jim veered off and hit a pole almost half way up which tore his car in a million pieces and Jim walked away, I was there as well, had to drive down the strip, drop Santo at the accident and race to tell Louie Jim had just had a major accident not knowing whether he was alive or not. Santo has never been the same, you may have noticed all Santos cars have "In memory of Louie" on all their wings.

Thank God this guy is ok.

Stef

I'd say his family will be putting the skids on big time.

Hi Stef.
I have seen Louie's name on Santo's cars.
I'm amazed Santo is still involved like he is.

It takes an accident like this to make everyone realize just how dangerous the sport really is.
The fact Phil wakled away is testament to the strength of the driver capsule.
I can only imagine the bruises he woke up with this morning.
