HI Alffie... Yet to see a set of side pipes that'll pass a noise test. Mainly because they're illegal anyway so noise is not the problem. A cat converter and some stainless wool wrapped in fibreglass will quiten em down but will restric flow. You could put some CONES in them to quieten em down too but that will also restrict flow and HP. Sadly, unlike the Hot Rodders working side pipes are not legal on our cars... But that doesn't stop SOME from having hem anyway!
I know one guy who lioves on the coast here that when he starts his car in teh garage it sets of the house alarm next door!!!!!!! Ooops sorry Darryl :-)

In the NT they are 100% legal if they pass the ADR noise test. My LS7 will have plenty of HP. 560Hp in a 1050kg car means I wont need to chase Hp. I also have to run cats to meet ADRs, also have to have the emissions sticker out of the ZO6 in the engine bay so every one knows what timing etc the engine has to run! MVR require that I "prove" my engine complies with ADR 37/01 and I dont need an emission test if I can do this.

Hi Alffie,

I've built a few sets of working side pipes now and I would say it's virtually impossible to get them down to legal noise levels (90dB).

The more HP you make the more noise that goes along with it. There's just not enough volume and length in a set of side pipes to slow and baffle the gasses enough to get them down to legal levels. Any baffles that would get you down to the legal limist are going to be so restrictive that the car will barely run let alone rev or make decent power.

Cheers
