By E mark I presume your talking about a standards requirement? Unlike lenses, lights etc tyres have the coding as part of the tyre size embossed into the tyres.
For speed rating I believe you will need at least a T rated tyre, I've yet to confirm this, so don't take it as gospel yet. When my engineer comes back to me I'll know more.
A good source of info. on tyre tech is through the Tirerack.com site have a browse and read up here.
I think too that tyre age might have a limit and I could be pushing that one as well given my kit came with the tyres bought in 2000 by the previous owner. Obviously if you are buying new that's not an issue for yourself.
What size rims and tyre styles are you considering, as this can have a bearing on what tyre availability is out there!
Cheers

My pick of the 15" tyres for street at the moment is Yokohama Avid S/T. Won't find them here in Aus though, will have to buy them directly from the US. Buying from the US is cheaper than buying here anyway.
I have Yokohama Avid S/T 245/60TR15 for front, 295/50TR15 for the rear. 7.5" & 9.5" rims. Haven't driven on them yet though.
If you want the vintage look, you need to run reasonable narrow rims to get the 15" tyres to bag nicely. So for example on the rear, 9.5" is the widest rim I would use with 295 tyres. If you have 265 tyres then I would use 8" wide rim.
Also keep the tyre diameters as large as you can to fill your wheel arches.
For dummy side pipes you can't go past Don @ Snake Bite(QLD). They are a work of art, custom made to correct dimensions for each kit body shape. But I am biased.

That's the first I have heard of requiring tyres to be rated the same as donor vehicle you are using the engine out of. Have I got that right?

Would these be any good as side pipes. I have them from the forward section back. You can see where they unclip... Just below the Goodyear decal/sticker lower edge. I had them attached with four Kart springs.
You just need to add a front section 90 degree under the front fender/guard. If you have cut the fender you could a run single pipe under instead of the four primary pipes as a cheaper option.
PM me if you want them...
They were operating and are coated in HPC aluminium..

yes my engineer tells me thats how it is with the tyre speed ratings. Also the computer has a cut of speed if it is 200kph the tyres must be speed rated to at least that speed. This is becoming a real pain for me. Also would like to thank you guys for the info HISSIN

Not sure which State your in but I have confirmed S rating is the minimum requirement for our cars in Victoria but this is of course based on legal road use.
Clearly if you want to go racing, better tyres are the order of the day!
I do plan to uprate my tyres and rims down the track.
Cheers

Bernie at Enklemans same as Aussie Mike used! In Braeside 9580 3024.
He's proved himself fairly practical on a number of other issues too, can highly recommend.
Cheers

And here I was thinking Bernie Knight was also an automotive engineer!
Thanks for the tip Steve. I haven't spoken with an engineer yet and that's as good a reference as I could hope for.
