Default Hope my RMC will go this hard when its finally finished.

It's been 4 weeks since I had my right shoulder replacement and its going well. Last week, I had to go and see my Ortho Surgeon for the first time since the Op.

He just brought himself a 50th Birthday present - An F430 Spyder Ferrari. My Cobra and his 430 occupied most of the consultation. He was more than happy with my progress. He must have been because you've got no idea how much better I felt when he threw a set of keys across the table with a F.E.R.R.A.R.I. tag on them.

4.3 litres, 490bph and revs to 10 grand. For about 30 minutes I was in heaven. It's about as noisy as a Cobra with side pipes too, but his is fully legal. Has Carbon Fibre brakes bigger than large dinner plates.(17 or 19" dia) What he will pay for his multiple sets of front disc pads would probably equate to my annual petrol bill.

The only other 430 Spyder I've seen was at the Motor Show yesterday. There were beautiful bikini clad models lying all over it. One of the girls has agreed to do the same to my Cobra when its finished. I got her contact details for future reference.

After my little test drive, I upset the good Dr. when I told him that my LS2 with the 6L80E GM triptronic trans would knock him off over the quarter mile. I'm not sure whether I'm having a lend of myself or not, but he has suggested a little run at Eastern Creek to solve the riddle one way or the other. What do you reckon. I have a better power to weight ratio 412hp and 1,100 kgs (me) against 490 hp and 1,450 kgs(him). Could be interesting.

He paid $220 K for the car, fractionally up on what I expect to spend. It was a fabulous experience - one I will never forget.

What a great story. Not often do you find a petrol head doc. Many have great cars but would never be seen on a track.

By the way, your RMC is gonna weigh about 1250Kg.

Cheers

Nice story Baz,

FYI, I just had my RMC weighed for licensing, it came in at 1140 KG.

Cheers

Default It will be a cool day in hell

The day one of my patients gets the keys to the cobra will be a little nippy downstairs. I suppose it might happen shortly after he hands me the fat cheque

Default 220k???

Baz, good to here you are recovering well, now, if this car is a 430 spider then there is no way he paid 220K for it, it must be a 360 spider. The 430 spider costs at least mid to late 400s , if it is a 430, he should have purchased 2! Sounds like a damn good buy to me if that is the case!

Stef,

It's definately an F430 Spyder and I have photos to prove it.

I got the price out of curiosity off the MSN wed site headed "2007 Ferrari
F430 - Detailed pricing & Specifictions-MSN Autos."

Google F430 Ferrari and you'll find that site on the list.

autos.msn.com/research/vip/futuremodel.aspx?familyid=1116-56k-

It actually lists at $204K, but the good Dr has optioned it up a little, which when you use the Options List, brings it up to $220K. Maybe that is in U.S. $$$$$. I'm not sure.

Whether its in $ozzy, $U.S. or South American pecos, it's an absolutely fabulous vehicle and my greatest driving experience so far, until I get my RMC on the road that is, but I still think I will dust him over the 1/4 mile.

Baz.

Default Now we're talking!

That's better, definitely in US dollars.

Yes they are definitely awsome, my friend purchased a spider DEMO with bigger brakes and upgraded seats (carbon fibre) and it cost a whopping 510K!

Is it REALLY worth it though?

Still doesn't turn as many heads as the Cobra.

and, what will it be worth in a couple of years?

Stef

Hi Baz,

I think your 1/4 mile question will be answered in the first 60ft.

I have seen some vids of 430's doing mid 12's with crappy 2.1 60 footers and 112mph. However others are doing mid/high 11's with 127mph which is hauling.

Many a superior car with inferior 60ft times has been beaten by inferior cars with great 60fts.

HSVREDSLED has hit the nail on the head.... it's ALL in the 60ft (well most of it anyway)!!!

I think the LS2 with auto will hook up very well on the strip in a Cobra, and if tuned well should beat the Ferrari "supercar". In fact, if you added a high stall and good tyres, it would eat the Ferrari on the strip.

Out of interest, a top fueller (or funny car, top alcohol, whatever) can back off very early and run through the traps at less than 100 mph, but still do an 8 or 9 second pass!!!

Guys...forgive a foreigner getting in on this one, but I read your story with some interest as one of the local guys who is a fellow partner here in a ractrack we are building in Austin, Texas has a Ferrari Enzo (about $1.4 million US I think!!!!!!) that he brought recently to our groundbreaking ceremony for our track extension.

It was the first time my brand new 'Green Monster' Cobra was actually displayed to a critical public. Local EMS, police, mayor, car enthusiasts etc. were all there, and I have to agree with Stef...just know that while the Enzo got a whole LOT of envious ooohs and aahs and "can I ride in THAT?", my inexpensive (??? $45,000 US ), hand built snake drew WAYYYYY more attention and smiles.

...and I have to agree, I think you'll beat a 430 on the straightaway!!!!

Of course, if he'd offered to swap his Enzo, it would be him writing this right now...ROFL
