Cobra weight
I'm interested to see the weights (overall and front/rear balance if available) of the various Cobra's out there.
The WA Cobra Club organised a technical day and "weigh in" today, on the corner scales at LF Performance. The results were very interesting to say the least. Mine came in at 1177kg's, but the interesting thing was the balance, mine was rear heavy by a decent margin (around 48/52 I think).... My car was weighed with about 3/4 tank of juice and basically in it's final trim except for carpet and a few minor bits. Problem is, the remaining few kilo's will basically go over the back axle. This will take the total to somewhere around 1190, but blowing the balance even further rearward!!! Thanks must go to the Cobra Car Club of WA for organising the event, and to LF Performance for hosting it and providing an insight into suspension set-ups. |
Mine was 1060 on the weigh bridge in full rego trim with 1/2 tank of fuel. Not sure on front to rear balance but I reckon it's rearward.

Not to start the Ford Chevy thing, but I will have a go if some one wants to.
The "Ford" Dart block alone weight 75kgs, that is just the block. How much does a LS series engine block weigh? My car weighs about 1300kgs with half a tank of fuel. I would expect my car to be heavier towards the front. The weight of my car is a concern but I have gone thru things that may explain the love handles. Dart Iron Block 3 Fuel pumps Steel bellhousing 365mm rotors Heater/ demister Power steering, pump, rack, lines, cooler etc etc. Tail shaft Loop, extra Andra Requirement. I suppose it is all the little things that add up. Phil |

I have an 8yr old FFR MK1 that scaled out at 2260lbs (1025.1188KG) with a full tank of gas 14 gallons (52.995 Liters) and about 20 lbs (9.07kgs) of tools in the trunk. -John

Thanks for posting that link patrickt, it's very interesting that all of the cars were tail heavy.
Phil, I believe that an LS1 weighs around 180kg, that's complete. You are right, those "little things" sure do add up, I don't have any of those. How much weight does your ANDRA cage add, or is it offset by the lightweight door skins? I was actually dissappointed with the weight of my car, I was hoping for very low 1100's. I know where there is lots of weight to be saved, it's just a matter of getting around to doing it, (which I probably never will).... |

The cage actually reduces weight as the cobination of doors seat etc is actually 30kgs lighter than road version. I am suprised with the weight of your car, expecially as it has no assecories, ie bumpers, wind wings etc etc. I think some of the weight is in the fiberglass, i am not sure how they are made, could you get a "thick" one that would add kgs to the car???? Mine's pretty basic. No heater or carpet or power steering. I think I saved a fair bit of weight not having a windscreen or wipers. The under body system is heavier than the side pipes and headers though.
I figure it'll weigh about 1100 or so with a windscreen and carpet installed Cheers |

Great idea for a club day, would be great to have something similiar up here.
My brother's Harrison weighs less than 1100kg. Most Harrisons end up around 1100kg fully trimmed etc. Our club president has a light-weight DRB that weighs a lot less than 1100kgs. Most DRBs up here are around the 1200kg weight. Haven't weighed my RMC yet, but I reckon it will weigh close to 1300kg. The extra weight is fine for a street car, but not so great on the track. |

A while back a friend of mine told me how stupid the metric system (SI) was. He then grabbed his 35mm camera, his 185 CM skis, a couple of 2 liter bottles of Coke, jumped into his 2.2 liter Focus and went on vacation.

mine on the weight bridge was 1026 kg with me sitting in weighing 75kg and about half tank of gas 35kg so under the ton.
