Default Got an engine now.

The missus wasnt that stoked to find I have scored and engine, box, flywheel, clutch, starter for $7,155 Au delivered.
I think
a) she is dirty she only got a $6K EF Falcon wagon
b) she wouldnt know a bargain if it bit her on the bum.

My old, short, baldish mate Al gave me a hand to drop the L76 and Tremec in last sunday.



Then we chucked the body on,



Then pondered dragging it forward and lowering it a couple of inches






Then went and had a beer. But you surely know what that looks like.

Yes it is one of thos filthy C's of things.
The mount in the link is simple and effective.
I'm going for a garden variety cleveland mount and make my own side plate mounts for the engine.

Sidenote for all others, REPCO has a part number here for 6 litre mounts but nil stock in qld at all as they havent been released at $125 retail.
Genuine item from the place that doesnt sell Ford parts is $86 retail.

They are pretty and fluid filled but stand higher than my apprentice Al.

They are tall, some 70mm high under load. together with the alum engine mount ears they put the crank up awful high if you're mounting on top of side rails.

Not sure if they will fit your body, but Warwick Harrison from Cobra Kits, www.cobrakits.com.au , Ph 55292229 has a template/jig for the L76 headers, he might be able to help?

I have been snowed under at work Alffie so I havent gotten any further yet.

In any case I have already made an under car system and I will be running live side pipes after rego, so I need to make the side pipe headers anyway.

This is what MVR has set for me to fit my side pipes. Just email Bill and tell him you want to fit them and you shouldnt have a problem

For your info, the NT may accept side pipes for this type of vehicle however the exhaust outlets would need to discharge to the right hand side and/or to the left hand side of the vehicle and downwards at an angle of horizontal of not less than 15 degrees and not more than 45 degrees.



It should also be understood that whilst side pipes may be acceptable on certain vehicles in the NT (such as Cobra replicas), they may not necessarily be acceptable for operation or registration in another jurisdiction.

What I want to end up with is a header set that has the collector between pots 2 and 3 longitudally, the centre of the engine. The pipes will merge in a 4 into 1 collector, which will face at 90 degrees to horizontal, plain speak= straight down.
From this I can waste more money on another set of collectors, probably run them thru a y piece engine pipe, should be able to get away with one cat then, and finish off with a HQ inspired pea shooter for rego.
Upside is, the side pipes will also fit onto those headers.
It would be great to get my hands on an exhaust bender again, even tho they wouldnt be mandrel bent it would suffice. Other obvious option is to buy a few mandrel bends and donuts and cut and shut.

Thanks Schipps , we have a Harrison kit in town, I will compare his rail positions etc to mine.

Alffie, you made all that sound so easy. Commonsense, logical thinking and tolerance for the sake of appreciation are still alive and well in NT RTD. Nice win mate. Lets hope it can be used as a precidence oneday.

With all this exhaust talk I thought I'd ask a question that I've been pondering for a while. Has anyone seen or done the following: fit a full set of working sidepipes and for rego purposes, have an interchangeable section that diverts the active part of the pipe back under the car in front of the rear wheel?

Assuming you could get adequate ground clearance under the chassis rail behind the door, you would then be able to fit another muffler or resonator prior to exiting at the rear. Noise problem solved, meets all local rules as far as where the pipes exit, no need for special headers that are a compromise on design when the proper sidepipes are fitted, or discarded altogether.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I thought while we're on the topic...

I reckon there are a few blokes pondering the best exhaust setup since the 6.0 litre is relatively new to us. Us all being die hard Ford men of course.
Consider the thread not hijacked Sambo, all advice is good advice if anyone wants to add thier 2 bobs worth.
With std L76 headers on my engine they just point strainght back towards the footboxes basically.
I like the block hugger set I borrowed recently except they do as the name suggest, and that points the collector straight at my engine mount.

Anyone here got header plates for these engines? Local bloke wants $90 each for them.
Good source for 4/1 collectors with bolt on flanges anyone?

For the initial shakedown I plan to run those factory L76 headers with a dump pipe and O2 sensors just to get it running. We're not talking about driving anywhere, just a bit of up and down the driveway.

As mentioned above, speak to Warwick Harrison about header plates. He told me before xmas that he was close to offering an exhaust setup for his customers running the new GM engines, to be custom built by someone up that way.

Castlemaine exhaust has mild steel header plates for $58 and Stainless Steel for $200!!. They do sell a side pipe kit and any pipe bits you can think of. Service a bit slow but the only one I could find that will sell only bits and pieces of Stainless exhaust pipe.

Iam going to use the STD LS7 manifolds and run the cats in the engine bay so my O2 sensers are inside the body. Waiting on some 4 inch flanges, so hopfully have the side pipes ready to go to the welder next week. I will try and post some pics tomorrow.

Guys with the Harrison cars.
I know I only have a lowley LS1 however I found the standard manifold (ala what I see on those lovely L76 I think) angled out to far on the drivers side and hit the chassis rail, and hit the steering shaft (big time). So be careful there is not a great amount of room. I ended up doing Aussie Mikes trick and used some manifolds off a Corvette which I brought ($200 Aus) in (hand luggage) from the US.
Having talked with Warrick (if I wanted a set of custom headers) I would get his guy to build a set of headers as there is alot of fiddling to get them to fit properly.
Needless to say for now the Corvette headers are going well on the Dyno.
