Shelby Fest what do I need ?
This will be my first time at the Shelby Fest.
So what do I need with regards to
1:- Personal saftey equipment, ie helment, clothing etc,
2:- Car, ie kill switch, tow hooks etc,
3:- How do I obtain the cams CAMS licence required to compete.
Is their anything else I should know or take ?

Shelby Fest Needs
Roda,
You will need a Helmet that meets Aus Standards (AS 1698 I think). Any motorbike or car racing shop will have. eg revolution racegear etc.
Covered shoes. Up to you here. A good set of leather runners are OK. You can now get driving shoes at some sports stores.
Full length clothing. Again up to you here. You can get a suit from racing shops / performance stores or a full covered cotton overalls. Otherwise jeans and long sleeve top (preferably cotton or wool) are OK.
If you have an opportunity, install a harness, it is worth it. It will stop you from swinging side to side in your seat when you're driving around the track. I have put a 3 point harness in my car which fits my existing lap sash seat belt lock down points and is tucked away when not in use. Got it from Autobarn for about $100 and they are ADR approved. Lots of club members have 4 and 5 point harnesses they install for these types of events.
You dont need a CAMS licence for Saturday. You can buy a AASA licence on the day or Friday if you are going to practice. Cost is $50 and will last 12 months. We will provide you with a CAMS day licence on the Sunday.
A Kill switch is a good idea, otherwise if we need to isolate the battery, the cable is cut in an emergency. Up to you here also.
If you need anything else just let us know.
Cheers
Tony

Thanks Tony,
Have already installed kill switch and 4 point harness.
The kill switch is in the boot should I install a remote wire so it can be turned off from outside the car?
Rod
P.S Tony hope to get to the club meeting this week, what time does it start and do some of the guys take their cars ?

Hi Roda,
Had about 10 Cobras at the last meeting, people start getting there from 06:30.
Look forward to seeing you and the car there.
I'm guessing you have the meeting details?
We now meet on the first Wednesday of the month not Thursday.
At the East Malvern RSL.

Good shop to by
Rod
try Meridan Motorsport in Moorabbin and also better prices at a motorsport shop near Moorabbin Airport (Grange Rd)
I would encourage you to get some good quality gear especially helmet and gloves (fireproof) as Cobras get real hot up that way.
REPTYL wears full fireproof gear which whilst hot to wear it would save your skin should the unthinkable happen. Also great for loosing weight (just look at Jason)
You cannot spend enough on good safety gear and it will last you a long time.

Since we are being serious,
Last year I substituted the race boots for an old set of divers boots, but just for the right foot. Seemed to take seconds off the lap times.
Mind you I wish I had them the prior year for the left foot... Others may remember that little excursion

Cutting the corner
Cameron,
I saw you adventure into the middle of the track.
I am sure I heard your undies scream in horror as you realised you had no brakes.
Cait wait to get there, it is a great long week end.
Phil
