I went to upload some new photos today and received the message below.

We're sorry, but you currently are over your quota for allowed disk space.
Please remove images from your gallery to free up more space.

Does anyone know how to remove images from their gallery, I haven't been able to find a "delete" option.

Ross

Ross

I've struck that too and sadly deleted a whole number of pics. but still couldn't add.

In the end I went to a couple of pics. I was still happy to flick and edited the new pictures into their place instead.

Cheers

Hi Ross,

Go into your gallery.

Double click on the photo that you want to delete.

When it enlarges it will have a set of little icons underneath it.

One of these icons should look like a little photo with a bandaid/plaster across the corner of it....That's the "edit" icon.

Click on this icon, and another page will open, and there is a "delete" option at the bottom of this page.

I notice your photos in your gallery are MASSIVE, and I can see why they have taken up too much space.

I found that reducing the photos before saving them to my gallery will give you space for a lot of photos , plus their much quicker to "upload" to the gallery.

I don't know the "proper" way to reduce any photos, but if I e-mail any shots, my computer automatically asks if I would like to make them smaller files.

So I e-mail the chosen photos to myself, choose the "reduce" option, and when they arrive, I save these smaller file/photos to a folder of photos that I want to put into my gallery.

Then when I want photos "uploaded" I get them from this collection in the file, and it takes only a few seconds to upload to my gallery.

Hope SOME of this might be a help.

I'm sure there are plenty of smarter people than I out there that can tell me/us a better "correct" way to reduce photo file sizes , without going through all that malarky.

Good Luck !

Warren Boylan.

Thanks for that Warren,

Most of my photos have been there for some time and you used to be allowed to upload images of any size. It's only recently that they have put size restrictions on uploads, I guess that we were chewing up their disk space too quickly.
FYI, the easiest way to reduce the size of images is to open them with an editor such as Google Picassa (free) or Microsoft Office Picture Manager, both have functions to reduce an image file to whatever size you want.

Cheers

Ross,

Even though the gallery says no size limit that is not correct and should be changed. The best size to post is between 85 to 130KB. As for downsizing them, I use the Microsoft Image Resizer which is great and doesn't mess with your original at all. It takes a couple of seconds to do it. If you are running Windows XP, this tool beats the Photo programs all to pieces. I am not sure if it will run with Vista. I just put then pictures that I want to upload in the My Picture folder, right click and select Image Resizer. You have three choices plus a custom that you can use to get the size you want and as I said, it only makes a copy and doesn't change your original, so you can make as many copies as you want until you get the size you are looking for. Go to the following link which is the Microsoft Power toy page and scroll down near the bottom to Image Resizer. Download it to your desktop and then just double click it to install. It takes about 2 seconds and is a small program. Then when you right click on a picture you will see it listed in the drop down menu. If you are using BMP pictures, change them to Jpg as that will also reduce the size a lot.

I think the easiest way to resize is to get the microsoft image resizer.

It's free from Microsoft and is one of a few tools known as powertoys.

Get it here:

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP

It embeds into windows XP and just adds extra functions to your image app.

Cheers

EDIT ... Oopsy, Ron beat me to it.

Ross,

I also forgot to mention that if you have photos in your gallery that you want to keep and don't have them on CDs or some storage, download them before you delete them and then you can resize them and put them back in as single photos or in albums.
