Default T-56 output shaft ?

How far into the gearbox housing from the end of the output shaft should the rubber seal be. I didnt take note when I pulled mine apart and it only appears to slide in about 35mm, which doesnt seem alot but may be right.

Doesnt seem a lot for the yoke to grab hold of when I have all that Chevy power feeding through .

Are you referring to the rubber shipping plug.

Tremec boxes when purchased new have a rubber bung in the rear to retain whatever oil was put into the box.

You pull it out and throw it away when installing the output yoke.

Cheers

Thanks Les - that may be all it is. Theres a red plug that obviously come out, but it didnt coccur to me light grey bung is also just a temporary fixture. doh.

Pete - I was going to just throw some banana skins in to keep her quiet - I heard that was quite popular with backyard mechanics in the 70's. Thats about when your engine comes from isnt it? Last millenium?

Make sure they are really ripe going black the skin is softer ,less load for the chev and use Motorcraft spark plugs they're really good too
