Default Door / Boot Seals

Hi,

Can anyone recommend suitable rubber seals for the boot and doors for the Classic Revival? I am thinking Clarke Rubber may be a good place to start but if someone has been through this hoop before with the correct profile, I would appreciate their feedback. Also what do you recommend for the bonnet rubber seal?

Gday WACR,

Around the boot I used a "Small universal pinch weld". I tried many different types before I found one I could get to fit. It wasnt easy though, as the edge\lip it ataches to needs to be sanded down in some sections as its too thick, and also kicks up in parts (so I had to soften the glass with a heat gun and bend down to get it to sit even). I think most guys have used a rect section foam strip. I got this from a place in Sydney called "gripy rubber products" - but I think clarke may have had a similar profile. You can sort of get an idea from this pic:



Around the doors Im using a half round foam strip - That was a hard one to track down locally (not sure why), so I bought some from finishline when I was ordering a bunch of parts. I think it will be a little neater then the rectangular strip.

For rubber products in Perth go to Industrial Rubber Supplies at-
102 Briggs St, Welshpool, 9362 5044, they supply 'Clark Rubber'
and have a massive range of rubber samples on boards for you
to look at, with either stick on or push on.
I have a small push on one if you want to have a look, I am in
Craigie. Just send a PM.

Thanks Harrymac , I live quite close to Welshpool so that sounds to be really handy, did not realise they were in the area. I will definitely pay them a visit, they may well be a better bet than Clarke Rubber.

Ha ha - thanks for the nice comments guys- but definately not show quality up close. WACR - I think I have a better closeup pic of the pinchweld on my work computer - It was a bit of work to get to fit but worth it IMHO.

I used a pinchweld style rubber. It took me a couple of trys to find one small enough to allow the boot to seal without being held out/up.

Don't misjudge seal size, its easy to get too large a seal/rubber, as I went through the same issue on the bonnet.

The seal size/type varies for just about every kit brand.

Also keep in mind that most seals will settle in very quickly to the opening shape/size, so don't be too disheartened if they appear to be slightly too large when first installed. Especially if you have slightly uneven gaps. I tend to go a little(I mean just a little) on the fat side as you tend to get better performance in the long term.

e.g. door seals & boot seals. I install them, leave them for a week with the doors/boot closed to settle in before making a final decision.

Aftermarket seals do not perform well in the long term. I've just replaced the pinchweld style seals on the RMC. The rubber had started to delaminate from the plastic mounting section and were also starting to get a little on the floppy side.

I've never installed a bonnet seal, prefer to run without a seal there.

If your here early in the month you could come to a club meeting, meet a few members and spy a car or three with luck. That's the first Wednesday in the month.

The 22/23rd Feb. sees our Vict. club event ShelbyFest at Winton and that would be worth getting to!
