Default VDO Tacho

Hi all

I am running a Ford Boss 260 using the standard Ford ecu standalone and no other modules,(Bem, Security etc).
Has anyone connected a VDO tacho to a Boss 260 and got it working correctly?????.
Any info or wiring diagrams, adaptors etc would be very much appreciated.

Dimi

hey dimi

on the ford ecus there is no external wiring thats goes to the tacho alone

its done by serial data

you can try an adapter that runs off the crank or cam sensors

u just have to be careful u dont disrupt one of these signals or engine might start missing at hi revs or something similar

another thing ive heard can be done is remove ecu covers and on the circuit board there is a pin or track that has rpm signal but this might be risky
ive heard it being done never seen it

easiest way is to hook up tacho booster from cam signal but first i would have to see how many triggers are on each
as i think the crank signal is way to many pulses and its prbably not perfect as it has a missing tooth pulse

so cam sensor might be the go

or run a 4 into 1 tacho booster off 4 coils then it has 1 output

Dimi,
People I know that used 4.6 ltr quad cam motors used the ac voltage output from the altenator as a signal source for thier VDO tacho. Their auto electrician installed a wire in altenator before the rectifier diodes for the tacho.
This seemed to work for them and the altenator on the 5.4 ltr motor should be same so it should work.
