Very true. He certainly left a mark on the hobby. I prefer to think of him back in the 80s and 90s, as an innovator rather than what we've seen on TV over the last few years... Think Chezoom, Cadzilla, Alumacoupe. I remember back in the early 90s when all the guys in his shop downed tools for lunch, and let myself and a couple of mates walk unrestricted through the workshop for over an hour without a second thought.
I bought a set of his wheels - the first set of real "Boyds" that I'd ever seen in the flesh - in Brisbane just before I went on the trip to the States. Never mind that they were a Chev truck stud pattern, I just had them redrilled to suit. They're still on the car today. I was about to upgrade to 17s to fit some larger brakes, but the sentimental side of me now says not to change the wheels anytime soon...
