Default Tyre Sizing

I've been undertaking a few suspension mods (long time needed) including AVO rear coil overs with 850 lb springs.

The ride is now superb and the ar$e is well out of the long grass!

My question is about rear tyre sizing as I now have a bit of space in the rear arches.

I am sticking with the existing 16" halibrands (7" front, 8" back).

I have 245 / 45 on the rear, which are ready for a change and 225 / 50 on the front.

I'm tempted to switch the rears to 50 or 55 profile, but after consulting the Tyre Bible 55 profile may end up with problems actually fitting the tyre in the arch.

I am thinking 50 profile, which is the same as the front - any comments / suggestions.

I would say that the Cobra is now standing how it should (an inch higher at the back). Good to lift a DRB back end as it does seem to be a little longer than other makes.

Thanks guys

This is a great site. You will have a lot of fun trying various combinations out.

I have found this helpful. They have a tyre sizing guide where you can enter all widths, heights etc.

Comparison are given.

www.discounttire.com - go through the Info Centre part of the site at the top then go down to the Tyre Calculator.

You can enter the current tyres on the Cobra and then options you are considering. The results will show you the various heights/diameters etc.

Considering tyres try www.summitracing.com - as well as they have some good products.

Import cost is about $30 through a Pomona Cal. based exporter to Australia.

Thanks Bern - very helpful (now in my favourites - sad!)

Need the tyres for the weekend, but will use the american suppliers for a price check to see how much I get ripped off

How's that Ferrari red GT40 going?

I presume its now got all its bells and whistles fitted now

Hi Pete,

I had all sorts of problems getting any decent tyres for the 16 inch wheels in Australia.

Bought the following set from Tirerack in the States, and they are BRILLIANT.

7 days from order to delivery, and they're the best set of tyres I've ever had on the Cobra.
They also will make the stance slightly taller at the rear as you were wanting.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....Model=AVID+V4S

I have Yokohama Avid V4S 225/55/VR16 Front and 255/50/VR16 rear.

Regards,

Warren
