I found Bill Lumidue's wrecked BBC Contemporary at Watkins Glen...this had to be back in 1997 - 98. This was back in the early Crankoid days.

The silver one that was backed into the tree looked particularly nasty. Im sure the two aluminium ones that hit each other would have had a hefty old repair bill also!

Greg Hood's car came to grief a couple of years back at the nationals. A real wakeup call showing how dangerous these cars can be. Fortunately Greg had a decent cage installed and he walked away.

One of the Queensland gang, Wayne Proctor, always claimed this was a HOT car, but found this to be a difficult repair !!!
He NOW knows the damage a small fuel leak can cause.
Resurrected and ready to go, Wayne is now one of the regulars at all of our race meetings, and will also be a part of the next Nationals..........once he has re-checked his fuel lines no doubt!

This thread's a bit like watching, "Australia's Funniest Home Videos" where some poor bloke get's his old fella whacked and we all have a giggle 
But it is good to be reminded to keep our vehicles well maintained and what careless driving or just bad luck can result in.
To add to Aussie Mike's post, I was standing near Greg Hood's son when Greg hit the armco on pit straight. Naturally he was pretty upset as the off was a big one and Greg appeared to be initially knocked out. |

This thread is not funny at all. I see these images it as a real warning that you've got to take care. We are basicaly driving home made over powered go carts. Most of the people putting them together aren't pro fabricators or mechanics and most of us driving them aren't experience race car drivers.
Things going wrong either mechnically or from human error can be catastrophic. You don't want to underestimate you Cobra.
I was leaning against the armco further down when Greg hit and felt it reverberate right along. I saw most of the accident and I had a sick feeling that someone would be leaving in an ambulance either with the lights and sirens flashing or possibly with them turned off.

For what it's worth, I didn't start this thread to trivialise the issue of safety. I think the pictures speak enough by themselves and it's up to individuals to do the right thing. One thing it shows me is how vulnerable we are in these little rockets. Construction and maintenance is another thing and that's partly why I'm joining the Vic club - plenty of guidance in that area.

Aussie's right!
A combination of factors can ruin your day!
For me, perhaps far less exposure in the car when forced into an emergency avoidance, and quite possibly some inadvertent pedal usage during the event, still brings about a sad outcome. 
Fortunately pride and vehicle damage only which all can be repaired.
The same can't be said for the b@#turd that caused the event and didn't hang around to be counted, if I was ever to get my hands on them!!.

Aussie Mike is absolutely right.
I should point out that I don't watch Australia's Greatest Home Videos. I don't like having a giggle over other people's misfortune.
The worst pic was the one with the tarp over the cabin which is usually not a good sign.

I'm sure that's an American car with a thread here somewhere from several years ago.
It was nicked and during the ensuing police chase the perpetrator lost control and spun backwards into the tree. He was crushed between the folded rear and the steering wheel.
Evidently the car was an amazing build, very well known and sadly missed, unlike the driver!
