The new fuel injection
On previous posts I declared that I was moving to plan "E", that is ditching the idea of running dedicated LPG. In Darwin, LPG is over 90cents per litre anyway, and with the added issues of Carby height and the loss of the boot space going to petrol was the only way to go.
I now have the Mass-Flo system fitted
I spoke to the engineer prior to purchase and produced a number of documents that suggest that the mass flo system is particulary good in relation to emmissions. Short story is that a set of test results from Utah (FFR Cobra), running a stroked windsor with AFR heads (just like mine) passed testing without catalytic converters. I don't know whether he was baffled by the bull or genuinely agreed, but either way, in principal, its good to go. Yeehaw.
Put the big oval filter on there, and it almost disappears.
And I think it looks good.
Regards
Hogster

Hi Andrew
Looks good mate. If LPG is 90 cents a litre, what's petrol a litre? Do you still have the gas stuff? If so, send some details cause it may fit on a certain blue one down south!
Cheers
Brett

That's it!!!......I'm movin to Darwin .
Two reasons....first, that's my favorite induction system and what I wanted on my windsor. Not allowed here.
Second, wanna get back all the fishin gear I left in the ocean last time I was there. I though I was fishing too light for the action and was getting broken off left, right, and center.
Now I know the truth...
According to another thread the locals up there seem to enjoy dropping engines off the local wharf. I'll bet there is an old windsor up there, half buried in the mud, with a small fortunes worth my fishing gear hangin off it.

Hi Brett,
The gas system is still intact, I literally just took off the manifold with it all bolted together.
Edelbrock dual quad manifold,
2 adapters to fit the holley base plates
2 Holley base plates
2 Adapter plates to mount the Impco's 90 degrees so the gas feeds both from the same side,
2 impco 425's
Edelbrock air filter
The Catch is that it is 12.5 inches tall from the base of the manifold. I may have a local buyer but if you are interested, let me know
Mando - I am running 36lb injectors. Estmated 420hp so the should be about right.
Rebel - where did you lose all your gear, I might go diving and get some stuff for cash converters.....One of the simple pleasures is watching the head to head between southern fishing gear and tropical fishies. Cracks me up everytime.
My kids baitfish with Ugly Stiks, Penn reels and 50lb braid, I go with the 80lb, and I get smashed regularly.....but its still fun

Well done Hogster. Looks great. Where did you source the motor? I will also go for the Mass Flo - after registration in QLD.

Hi Merve
The engine was built by C0braed, also known as Eddie, Oval Eddie (which is about the Ford thing not his body shape) and Fast Eddie by his wife??.
Quite some time ago I walked into his workshop and asked him lots of annoying questions about building a Cobra engine. He gave me the parts list of what I needed to build the beastie. He supplied the block and expertise.
I am getting closer by the minute. Tank is being made this week, fuel system components about to be ordered, then battery, wiring, fuel and maybe even loud noises soon.
Regards
Hogster

Looks great Hogster. Just shows what can be done with the 'humble' 302. The Mass-Flo is the way to go and a way I hope to follow before too long (at least after rego). What did you have done to the motor: alloy heads, cam, ???

Hi Merve,
Forged Crank, Rods and Pistons
AFR 185 Alloy Heads
Mildish Comp Cams camshaft 31-442-8
and the rest is just blingy stuff.
Having said that there was a lot of extra work that went into the engine, like my nervous sweat whilst I filed and sanded away at the alloy heads (at the direction of Eddie) apparently I was making horsepower. Time will tell.
I am hoping 400 plus.
Cheers

G'day Guys,
Question about the Mas-flow efi.
I understand all too well the benefits of this system measuring the airflow into the engine and adjusting fueling to suit but what about timing? As I understand it, cylinder pressure is what dictates timing which is a combination of compression, cam, heads and induction. Changing timing does affect air/fuel ratios. What about acceleration enrichment etc. I'm sure this system works and probably works quite well but can it maximise the potential of a motor or is the set up generic in nature? Any thoughts?
Cheers

And then there are these! http://www.fordcobraengines.com/Cobrakitpack.html
(See the Mass-Flo also and note only an extra $1000 for full polishing for the bling seekers)

The system does have a base "map" of ideal fuel/air ratios programmed in it. The map is different depending on the intended engine and as I understand it Chris tests different engine setups as well as use customer feedback to improve the programming.
The system is essentialy a stock FI system that monitors air volume/temp, coolant temp, exhaust oxygen, as well as barometric pressure. This system varies not only the amount of fuel but controls timing by using the TFI (thick film ignition) module on the distributor. So it's able to modify the two things most important to efficency/power gas and spark.
Also on the throttle body is a throttle position sensor (tells the computer when your getting on it) this does two things alter ignition and enrich A/F. On a conventional engine the vacuum advance alters timing and the acceleration pump dumped in extra gas.
Really the same things are still being done just more precisely via the computer.
I am curious why some of you state you can't run this in Australia?? No doubt a dumb law of some sort.
