Default Anyone got a spare gearbox....

Well I've sorted out why my car was so noisy when it was running, the gearbox is trashed.

One quote for $2K to repair all the bits which just about means complete new innards I am guessing.

Anyway it is a T5WC Tremec attached to the windsor, so a ford oriented version and I'm looking for any gearbox options - including taking up someones un-wanted or un-needed gearbox.

Is there such a beast around?

I'd like to stay with the T5WC if possible, and I can always go the repair route, but am keen to know if there are any similar gearboxes or alternate options out there possibly for sale.

At the moment time is on my side but it is an issue I need to sort out.

Hope to hear from some one.

Cheers

Slowy - If you have to spend that much, why dont you spend a little more and buy a tko600. Mine was $1857 USD plus freight....which still came in at less than $2500. Then there's the lakewood bell housing and hydraulic throwout....

As the dollar is on par and you have the time go for a new box.
You wont have to worry about it again even if you increase the HP in the future.

Stiffy is right in how I'd like to go but I ain't no Porch tottin bloke and I do have 4 other permanent residents to consider, 2 at least which are at that carnivorous stage when after school, if it's edible it's fair game!!!

But that's the idea of this thread, can I import something suitable for not much more?

I'd thought TKO500, as a 6th leg just gets in the way and the 500 will cater for way more than the HP I think I will ever go. Besides if I'm wrong, then the transient gearbox will be well used when I want to upgrade anyway, and the carnivors will no longer be at home and I wll then be able to afford the right stuff!

However a Mustang T5 might just as well fit the bill as I've only a lowly 5L at present! But the comparison to compatible US cars throws me every time. Does anyone know whether a mustang box will simply fit where the ozzy T5 left?

Any other helpful comments would be great, thanks guys!!

The very slowmeister

So do I!!!!!!!!!!!! All mine do is eat and sleep

At least yours might do the lawns or dishes occasionally

Slowly, go the extra and get a new box, you will never have to touch it again. Your previous thread mentioned how difficult it was to get the box out in the first place....... remember...

But then your's don't want new bikes, big beds, the lastest electronic gaggets yabada yabada - eh Stiff!!

But you are right, but I lack the knowledge of what I need for which box.

Can anyone help on what is needed to mate which box with what to a late model windsor block? This way I can at least make a reasonable choice with all the info there.

I am aware some input shafts need changing and of course different bellhousings and what about clutches and so forth.

Any good advice would be welcome.

Cheers

I"ve got a Ford Toploader that I want to sell. It's in good shape. Swapped it out for a TKO.. The price is right if you're interested.

I bought a TR3550 used with low mile for less than 1250.00
Look around maybe on Ebay or Craigs list.

Hey Slowy

If i had your rig I'd be looking at the the SuperDuty T5

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

or

http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...tKeyField=1879

Eagle Auto Parts in Dandenong is the local Ford Racing dealer although I haven't used them in that capacity before.

http://www.eagleautoparts.com.au/

Might be cheaper to purchase from US (who knows)

Thats if you cant pick up box locally at a good price

Slowy,

Damn I just left Arizona and my carry on luggage and booked baggage was way under the allowance for 1st class - I was bumped up from Business.

...I could have carried a full car on board..

I have a good contact for export from Pomona who ship parts and cars regularly from the USA

Thanks Bernie, I'd be interested in the contact just in case.

Have to admit I like the sound of the Tremec R58H on the Eagle web site Michael's thread leads you to, very similar gearing but double the torque capacity of the super duty T5 which is what mine is. But I do note I'll need a different clutch plate, output yoke and probably bellhousing.

Can anyone comment particularly on this box and its fitment to the windsor?

Was going to get a new clutch disc anyway but I don't know if it this 10.5" version would be compatible with the standard AU flywheel and clutch pressure plate.

And of course I have no idea of input shaft length and bellhousing arrangements, any comments?

I'll give Eagle a call later regardless but any informed comment from you guys would be appreciated.

Cheers
