Factory 5 Sidepipes
For anyone about to purchase sidepipes, here are mine just arrived form Factory 5.
The welds will need fettling and then I will get them HPC ceramic coated silver.
Cost was $US 389 + $US 179 freight to my door. God Bless The US of A! Took about 2 weeks.
I have been quoted $AU 150 per pipe for coating.
Next job to work out what all the bits are for!

Those funny looking "elbow" brackets look like specific mounting bars that go from the muffler tab to the chassis. Therefore it must be a solid mount. I thought there might be some sort of "flex" in the side pipe mounts. I intend to incorporate a rubber mount in mine.

Hi Rob, looks like the rubber mounts are on the LH side of the "elbow brackets", those oval shaped things.

on the ffr cars there is a 2x2 square steel that goes across the frame from left to right, the steel bracket gets mounted to the side pipe tab, the middle hole uses the larger rubber hanger, they use a allen head bolt a washer go through the rubber hanger another washer then a elastic locking nut the lag bolt goes to the 2x2 steel on the inner hole there is a smaller rubber mount with a stud mount that to the hanger now on the other side of the inner rubber mount it has female threads drill a hole through the 2x2 and use another allen bolt to mount the inner mount. hope that helps.

OK, so here they are HPC coated, very pleased with the result too.
I have made 2 experimental exhaust valves which divert exhaust from the underbody pipes to the sidepipes and can be adjusted to tune the sound. I had a spigot and blanking plate put on when the underbody pipes were fabricated.
They work well so far but dont know if the high temperatures will cause them to sieze in time. At present they are adjusted by hand but might put a cable or motor drive in if they prove to be durable.

These pipes are a good option, but I would be checking the length to see if they will look the way you want them to on your Cobra before ordering. Unfortunately the body measurements of Cobra kits in this area varies more than you would expect.
Just thought I would post this information for anyone thinking about ordering them.

WHAT is that wally setup ??? I can't see what it's supposed to do? Is it to keep out bugs ?

Looks good in theory but I don't reckon the butterfly is big enough. I reckon it'll just sound like a chuffy exhaust leak when its open.

Craig your right, a guy I know bought a set of sidepipes from the states and ended up adding 2" to their length. Lucky for him the pipes were ordered in an unpainted steel finish.

Nope, it works fine, the hole can be made larger though if needed, the sound is definitely improved but my aim was not to be too loud. This also means the pipes do not get too hot to cause leg burns.
As regards the pipe lengths, they are 1250mm o/a.
My car is stretched 100mm so they look a bit short but I still like the look.
