Ahoy From Across The Pond
Michael (LS1 Cobra) told me awhile back to drop in and say hello to the Cobra / LSx crowd here. So howdy. Here's the latest parts addition, she's off the ground and walking...
I've got a build thread going on LS1tech if you wanna take a look:

Hi Daniel,
Welcome aboard.
Chassis's looking good rolling on its wheels.
I'm LS1 Cobra on the LS1tech site.

Daniel is in the US and building a FFR with Gen3 power. An unusual combination for a US built car.
I met him over on LS1tech and suggested that this is a pretty common setup down here and we could probably help him out.
Cheers

I love the wheel/tyre combo. What are they? 17" diam I'm guessing.
Those FFR kits look really easy to build. Are the alum panels in the engine bay custom made or part of the kit? I'm referring to the pics over on LS1tech.

Yes the wheels are FR500s, 17x10.5 rear and 17x9 fronts.
The firewall and drivers footbox I got off of http://www.ffmetal.com/
I started to make my own but wasn't doing such a great job. So I got
his set, used them as a template so I could hone down my own sheetmetal work
for later items.
So far the car has been pretty easy to build. As long as you have a basic knowledge
of how a car is supposed to work it's not that bad. I'm learning to tackle one issue
at a time...

That Chassis looks really light weight. What is the stiffness ? My Chassis is really heavy duty and still has flex. (RMC) aust.

No biggy. I thought about it as I typed it. Maybe I should've said "Across The Big Pond" for clarification. However Mike took care of it..

The stiffness was what originally sold me on the FFR car. I wasn't looking for a period correct car, obviously.. , and I know she will see some track time. I spent about 3 years doing research and gathering funds to do this project. I didn't personally weight the frame however according to FFR the frame by itself weighs 326lbs. Here's more info if you want to read..

Tails,
Looking real good.
Luv the wheels. It's hard to find a modern wheel that looks at home in a Cobra.

I've been looking at the pics of the FFR chassis and I reckon they would be pretty good. They would have a good chance of passing our torsion and beaming tests out of the box.
They have a couple of tricks that would improve the chassis rigidity. They have a backbone structure which is sheeted in aluminium to act as the trans tunnel. Riveted sheet aluminium actually provides quite a bit of stiffness as the sheet acts as a shear plate. Combine that with the sheeting on the footboxes and floor and you have a bretty strong structure. F1 and Indy cars used to be built from folded sheet that was rivited together and very little tubular structure.
That crossed tube section under the doors will stiffen things up as well as providing a bit more side impact protection.
Cheers

LOL nice, I'm saving that pic for later use..
Lobelly, in Mike's defense, I was already on the darkside before I came into the Cobra world. Fell inlove with the LSx when I got my first Fbody in 98. Been soaking it up like a sponge since then. In all fairness though the Ford Mod motors are nice. I've tuned my fair share of them. Just not what I wanted for this car..
