Can anyone supply any info regarding club rego?
I have spoken to a local car club president (am going to see him tonight for more talking) and he advised that the car must be over 30 years old to be registered on club plates.
He said there was an effort being made to include kit cars of newer make into the scheme but it had stalled and he had heard nothing else.

So does anyone know anything else?

I was thinking of getting my car on club rego so I can atleast use it on weekends whilst getting it complied for full rego.
As the engineering side is going to take a long time due to distances out here.

The Victorian rules expressly state that replicas of old cars are treated the same way as old cars, whereas it appears that the NT rules require you to interpret them (the rules) that way.

One question you may know the answer to,
Under the "What conditions apply" section, line 2 it talks about ADR approvals, does this relate to todays standard or is it to the year the "kit car" impersonates?

Also do you have a link to the Vic site where it advises the replica of an old car is viewed the same way?

I think you have to read both parts of that section in conjunction to get a proper understanding of the conditions.

I suspect that the first condition may provide you with some relief and that the second condition relates to the ADRs as they were at the time - noting that 'ADR' & 'Roadworthy' are distinct standards.

I cannot find the underpinning legislation in the actual Act or Regulations.

Boxhead my cobra is on club rego and it has been for the last 6 years and i wouldn't go full rego .$100.dollars a year and drive it to any auto event .road test and to and from repairs ring me on 94650000 and i will help.Lindsay

There was also some talk a while back about 90 day reg, where you could drive your car for 90 days a year if you kept a log book. I dont know if there is any more info about this, or if it was just an idea that never saw the light of day.

Beejay no i can drive any time to and from any auto event i can road test any time and to a auto repairer witch means i can drive to work any time ,and to club meetings or club outings ,so do you drive your cobra any more than that. Lindsay

Andy i don;t exactly no on the 90 day rego but the SR club rego all i had to supply was exhaust noise level test and a brake test supplied by a road worthy tester. Lindsay

mcdonald, what state are you in ? I'm in NSW and a bloke I know in the ford T club is on "club" plates and every time he want's to go out he has to notify the club president,who then has to log the event so as to have records for the police.Then give a written approval. ( Bulls*it )
Not too flash if you want to go for a run on a nice sunny morning on the spur of the moment.
boxhead, play the patience thing...My car has been registered for 6 years now and it's still not mobile. Through the rego process it took the RTA almost 12 months in NSW.
There is always something else to do so get these things done and when the rego comes through you will be closer to complete.

The best state.Victoria and yes the NSW club rego is Bull#*!t that is why the NSW street rodders want;s the Victoria rego scheme, if we go interstate we apply for a number but all other runs we just carry a run advertisment so if we get pull up you can prove were we are going.but in 6 years i have never been pull up. Hi there everyone, I have started delving into this and dont want to say too much, but each state and territory has differnt regs.
I can only speak for the NT but as it stands I am awaiting to hear from the governing bodies as to weather a replica (not kit) car will qualify if it is a replica of a car that is more than 30 years old.
If my replica is deemed to be eligable then I can apply for club plates.
In the NT because of the low volume of cars the plates issued are the same for clubs and for Street Rods (SR plates) all NT plates are red and white and start with VCC (but in saying that you can pay to have personalised plates but these are still red and whites)
To get club plates then you must be a member of a club that is an approved issuer of club plates, of which right now there is one in Alice Springs (there is a second club just starting and they have applied for permission to issue plates) the only current club is more aimed at the older vehicles in a stock standard form, but are not closed to the thought of other vehicles.
I met with the local club Vice President last night and we discussed this in some detail.
One point he did make clear is that the plates are only to be issued for testing purposes and club events, a log book must be kept and a vehicle can travel to a maximum of 100kls per week.
If a vehicle is seen to be being used on a regular basis, example being to drive to work, then the club can act toward having the plates removed.
If a second complaint is made to the MVR and there has been no action taken by the club then the club can loose there permission to issue plates. (this is something that could affect you Lindsey)
The second club just starting is aimed at the hotrod and modified vehicle arena.
The local guy I saw last night was extreemly helpfull and did not make me feel that my style of car would not be welcomed, for as he realises his club needs to move forward with the times or they will no longer be there.

I would pursue normal rego first, you have done everything to comply and if you loose this window of opportunity you may have a mountain of problems to overcome.

The cobra community do not pretend that their car is a 65 model cobra, but are happy to say yes it is a replica.

That is the reason we will always be treated differently from the hot rodders. It is almost be slight of hand that a brand new 32 ford with a repro chassis and glass body is registered as being manufactured in 1932, hey they get away with it but it isn't right.

If you cannot get full rego, then look at club rego....well that is what I would do.

I do plane on getting full Rego Phil, and in my email to the MVR I stated that if this is in any way going to impeed the process of complying for full rego then let me know before I go any further, as I do intend to drive the car to and from work every day (when it isnt too damned cold) and do not want to do anything that will make that not happen.

I agree that I am building the car to comply with full rego (and will get it) The thought of club rego was more so that I do not have to go to the MVR and get a weeks permit whenever I want to take the car for a run.

If the initial thought was to build it only to be on club plates then it would have one of those blue boat anchors in it with 4 webers.
