Default Another CR on the road

Hi Everyone,

I haven't been on the site for sometime but I have finally succeeded in being able to drive my car legally. It is now having the post rego operation so it sounds more like a cobra than a prius(or whatever that scalelectric car is).

Just one word about the rego, my cars engineering report was completed on the 22nd of Dec 2007. The vin number was returned to the blue slip provider on the 20th of April. I don't know if I was the odd one out in the pile at the RTA but I hope that not all of us have to go through the countless phone calls and excuses that I done and was given.

For those who have a CR and Gen3 that are looking at engineering I have a loan full underbody exhaust system if someone needs it. It easily passed the noise test. Just let us know I am in Sydney.

Troy

Well done Troy.

It would be great to see your car some time.

I am about to go for engineering, if mine does not pass I might need that exhaust!

Thanks fellas

Took delivery of the body/chassis in June 05. Only pic I have of the whole build is when I was tring to get the body/chassis of the car trailer. Seems the camera was forgoten after that.

The car is just going to be a street cruiser. at the moment. May look at the special parts later.

Ben - if you need the exhaust it is at Racers Choice at Seven Hills. I met Greg there and he told me that you were close to engineering. They are doing a set of sidepipes and a roll bar for me.

Troy

Well done on your CR. About the same time frame mine took to build and reg my CR.

Hope you get time to come down to Wakefield Park for the Nationals to catchup with plenty of cobra nuts. Well worth the short trip if you haven't.

Leeroy.

It's a small world Troy!

I have borrowed an exhaust off Barry, it was done by Stuart also.

Hopefully it is going to get me through first time!

Congratulations Troy. You may recall we met at Oran Park (unsuccessfully) stuffing noise insulation into our cars!

I had the same dramas as you, sent paperwork to RTA end Jan got rego end June. Partly RTA, partly our engineer. Just happy its over now.

After dealing with the RTA (spellcheck says RAT) it's a relief more than a happy moment.
My engineer performed miracles to get my car passed. Then the approval for the VIN cycled from one in-box to another out-box for about ten weeks before my engineer "enlightened" the particular people to process and complete the paper work.
As pneal said the RTA doesn't really want to know about these cars.
Congradulations !

Troy,

Discouraging to hear the problems you have had with the RTA. I will be approaching engineering in the next few months and would like to know how they could possibly take 4 months to supply a VIN No?

Could you enlighten us on some of the flimsy excuses that the RTA came up with during your many conversations with them. It might help me and any other builder appraoching that important stage.

Any suggestions how we can speed up that process would be appreciated.

Regards

Baz

Well done Troy. Yeah, you should try to make the Nationals as you will have an absolute blast.

Baz, Neil Streeting has the skills and the experience to make the rego process as painless as possible. So you are in good hands.

Been trying to get to the nationals for some years now but my company I work for seems think that being in some far away country at that time is more benefical for my well being.

RTA where do you start? First was to get a phone number for their engineering dept Homebush. It is a very well kept secret. Once you have this phone number the one and only guy that does the approval is normally there a couple of days a week only. You pick which days.

If your lucky and you do get to speek with him he will tell you that he has a pile of approvals to do and he will get to it asap. I rang every week until he finally approved it and was sending it to the VIN dept at Botany. Hint: turn off caller ID on your phone.

This is where the most time was lost. They must have a policy that no one is to speek with each other. O another secret phone number. One person was on hoildays so the approval was sent back to the Engineering dept where it was put back on the pile at the bottom.

Once located again it was sent back to the Vin dept once the guy had returned from holidays.

I hope for future approvals for cobra owners it is a lot shorter. In that time I near put 300 unregistered km on the clock. The old "use it or lose it" motto.

I am one happy chappy now though.

Troy

Default Well Done,

You certainly put the rego label on with a sigh of relief.

Looking forward to seeing your car, another cr on the road.

The RTA are buggers and as Pneal has said they ho not want these cars on the road.

I waited 9 months from submitting my paper work to receiving my Vin Number seams as though they are back to there old tricks again.

Craig,

Thanks for the encouraging words. I know Neil will do the right thing by me, but it's good to have some extra insight from someone like Troy who has been through the hoops and has experience which he can share concerning the pathetic NSW Government in all its glory along with their continuing
stuff-ups and excuses.

Troy,

Thanks for the information. I am far wiser now. What's the chances of you posting those secret phone numbers for RTA Engineering and Vin No. issue?

Baz.
