A lap of Wakefields new surface.
I had a chance to have a practice at Wakefield today.
We arrived at about 1.00pm and had the Track to ourselves for the afternoon.
Sam, (new track guy) said just go for it, so we did. I hoped in the car with karen and she did the same with me, I will leave the stories for the nationals very funny.
The air temp was 6 degree and it was almost impossible to get the tires to stick.
I was off pace a bit today and most laps are in the 1.12.00 range.
Here is one of the laps.

Looks smooth Phil, and so does the track , particularly at the last hairpin onto the front straight, the braking zone at that point was a bit lumpy.
Thanks for the preview. I'll be practicing at my desk

That has me keen as mustard now, I had completely forgotten the circuit layout. Whats a track like with new surface?
Been in the garage since I got home fitting oil accumulator like PhilN's as dont wont any oil problems like last track outing.
Also got myself a nice suede Sparco sport steering wheel, already been making broom broom noises in the garage

Better
The surface is much better and the braking zones are smoother.
I wouldn't say it is perfect as the drop off to some of the ripple strips are signficant.
Leigh I hope your parts don't arrive
Keen as, will try and get another couple of runs on the track before the nationals.
Having too much fun.

Fast enough
HI Al,
I checked thru the lap timer information and the highest speed on the main straight was 189km/hr.

G'Day Phil,
I'm wondering what type of camera you were using ?
I would like to make some in-car shots myself once I've finished building my unit.
Regards, Rob. Smith

Vanity
HI Rob,
The camera I use was recomended by Pneall, I must say the results are great. The youtube stuff is a much lower resolution, played from the original file on a tv is awsome.

Ouch, A bit pricey but it's something to save for. By the way your track video was inspiring. Not many gear changes. Is this normal or do you have too much horsepower ?

Gear changes,
HI Rob,
The gear changes really depend on your car, I think.... or hope.... most drivers would do the same. My drive line is very happy in third, it pulls well from down low and I find it better just to rev out to 7200 then change gear, it feels quicker.

G'Day Phil,
WOW 7,200 rpm on a V8 that's impressive. The video sounds like you're not reving too hard but if it's doing that kind of revs it sounds mighty healthy and it doesn't sound stressed at all. Congradulations on a strong sounding engine ( + performance )
How many gears ? I've got 5.
