Passed Engineering
Hi All,
Well today I went for engineering and passed.
I have a grin from ear to ear and have to keep pinching myself.
Two minor items (i.e. Dash foam wasnt dense enough and my puny Reverse light didnt pass) - easy fixed.
Now the wait for VIN# from Vic Road begins. I am told a couple of months at least is the present waiting period.
My engineer was Bernie from Enkelmans and he did a fine job and was great to deal with.
Now the long wait begins.
Rgds

Well done Gregg, I reckon you are about the fastest turn around from kit to engineering I have heard of.

Thanks Dave, although I cheated a bit by getting a rolling chassis. I can appreciate the amount of work from bare chassis to rolling chassis and the time it would take. For me it was about 2 months (of continuous late nights and weekends) from rolling chassis to engineering. Although I spent 5 months accumulating parts prior to the arrival of the rolling chassis, so the assembly would be quicker.

Well done Gregg! And here's hoping the VIN comes through without any unnecessary delays.
What approach did you take with regards to noise levels?

Well done Gregg.
Did Bernie recognise the seats?
And yes what was his response to noise levels, was it much as I described my experience or were you too quiet anyway?
Cheers

Snuck in under at 89dB.
He measures the seat back height boys so make sure you are compliant.

What a good feeling eh ?
Dash padding was an issue with my engineer too. I found the foam in a boogie board was exactly spot on with crush and recover specs. I carved it with an angle grinder and covered it with some vinyl "leather". I then stuck some velcro to the dash and the pad and all was good. It was funny on one of the brake tests when the tester grabbed the dash to brace himself and pulled the pad off. The look on his face was hilarious.

Hi Rob,
The feeling is still there (so to speak). Just cant wait til VicRoads give me my VIN # and I cant get it on the road.
That was pretty funny about the brake tests.
I visited Doug Pearce in Lilydale who builds kits and he put me on to a furniture place in Box Hill VIC - RB Gray who have some piping that does the job. 5 bucks was all it cost and it had the right profile as well.

Hi Greg, congratulations on passing engineering. I can,t believe you made this happen so quickly as your roller was just getting ready to leave CR on the day that I was there placing my order for a body/chassis kit which I'm told is still about 2 to 3 weeks away. Well done,

Strida, Yes it was pretty quick. My family now has me back. I worked most nights and weekends as I needed to pass engineering by the end of this year due to my engine etc. If you need any tips on the underbody exhaust for the CR 2008 chassis let me know. maybe I can get some more detailed pictures for you. If you're in Melb I can put you on to the exhaust people I used. They actually check the sound levels for me beforehand to ensure I had a chance of passing.
I am a bit more relaxed now. Can sit back and enjoy it more and take my time with the rest of the build - prep for painting, painting, interior plus some other things that as I was building I thought I would re-do when I have time.
Mike - thanks for your help on the phone and your wonderful tips and posts on the forum. Especially the Brake Fail Float switches - they did the trick.
Steve - yes definitiely a drive for you as I owe you big time re the seats etc.
Everyone on the forum - I would not have been able to do what I did without the information contained in these posts. I really look forward to reading all of these posts. Keep them coming.
I just won an award at work yesterday which carried a $1500 cheque with it so I am thinking this will go towards some nice sidepipes.
I said to myself I would really like to go to Shelby Fest next year and it looks like I will be able to - now got to think about what I need for that. Ah more work on the Cobra - what a shame.
Rgds
